Looks like most pistol and rifle primers from all manufacturers are taken off the website. I wonder why?

Just speculating here...

Probably because they cannot source them and got tired of answering the phone saying "no we don't have any".

They are out of them and all primers are currently so far back-ordered that they decided to remove them from the website. They really do not know when more will arrive.

I think they had a pretty big backlog on orders anyway. They probably have a years worth sold already and none coming in...Why take more orders?

I don't know but you can bet rumors will be coming out the ass with this one. You think panic buying has been bad just wait till the stories about this one start flying.

Whew.... just made a big order a few days ago... called & was told, "no worries about needing to cancel". Snuck in under the wire. My guess is that bofe954 hit the nail on the head.

For awhile I was checking their site everyday to see if primers were in stock but no luck. So recently I placed a large backorder for just primers. It's pretty sad that I get all excited just to be on a backorder log.

Anybody know how long the backlog is? If you placed an order for primers from one of the major online (Cabelas, MidwayUSA, Powder Valley, etc) today, when would one expect the order to be filled?

It's not a good sign when Powder Valley removes primers from their site.

I'd put that on the list with the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. If powder valley can't get something related to reloading, you know the situation is bad! I saw the signs, heard the rumors from insiders, but never thought it would get this bad.

Midway and Powder Valley do not let you backorder primers anymore.

There are none available, nor are any expected to be available.

So it sounds like they are still honoring backorders prior to the removal?

I'm a dealer, and I can't get any primers, any brand--haven't been able to for 3+ months. Same thing with most powders. Hodgden sent a letter to distributors (that supply dealers) about 2 months ago stating that they would be producing no 8# containers of any powder for at least 6 months. Seems like they are also not producing 1# containers either.
I CAN NOT PROVE THIS--but I believe the deal is thus: all these manufacturers have government contracts, big ones. I believe that the government has told them that if they want to keep their government contracts, then they must greatly curtail distribution to the public. "Our" governments new way to limit potential firepower of the public. Working pretty good, too!

Time will tell...I have several standing orders with PV but doubt that I'll be seeing any primers this year, maybe 2010 will be better.

On that point I would beg to differ.

Someone placing an order, that goes unfilled, is just so much paper. It does not -decrease- the supply.

What does decrease the supply is that wholesalers/retailers are NOT GETTING PRODUCT from the Manufacturers.

WHERE is it all going?

I've been trying to collect the necessary items to start reloading 45 colt. No retailer/wholesaler I have spoken to has any large pistol primiers, or power of any use to me, or lead cast bullets for that matter. Nor to ANY of them have any idea of when, or if, they will be getting any.

I did manage to order 500 255grain semiwad cutters for 45 Colt ... and was quoted a 6 - 8 week lead time. Maybe in two months some powder and primers will show up.

I am waiting on 100K from an order in February.

And that Ladies and Gentlemen is a big part of the problem!

OK, this is getting crazy. What's it take to get into the primer-making biz? Supply & demand.... I just can't believe some enterprising company isn't interested in making serious $$$ by filling this demand. My god, there's obviously more than enough demand to just supply the public sector, forget gov't contracts.

Midway had Federal Small Pistol Primers yesterday.............I got the email after I went to bed. This morning they were out again.

I just called PV and was told that primers were taken off the web site because they don't have any to sell. As soon as some primers come in they will post them on the web site. I was told to keep an eye on the site.
