Local gun shop has a Glenfield 30a in .30-30 on the used rack that I'm looking at. It's got a 20 inch barrel with the short magazine tube. Externally, the rifle has seen better days. Blueing is mostly gone and the metal is scratched up, but no rust or putting. The wood is dinged up, but no cracks or oil stains that I could see. The crown looks good, and the action is smooth. It's got an old cheap scope mounted on it that can't be worth much. My over all impression is that it's a solid rifle that's been hunted with a lot. The shop is asking $350 for it on consignment.
My plans for the rifle would be to have the barrel cut to 16.5 inches, Skinner sights, and cold blue the rifle. It would be a beater lightweight brush gun where shots would be less than 100 yards. Sort of a guide gun in .30-30. What would be a fair price for it?

My first thought is that it is too much, but anything with a 1/2 mag tube sells at a bit of a premium. I don't see enough of those to get a feel for what a fair price is. I'd do a little research on gunbroker etc. and try to get a feel for what something similar has actually sold for.

It it also has a straight grip it is one of a special run made for K-mart several years ago. I know those are highly thought of and bring a surprising amount of money.

I bought a 20" Glenfield .30-30 on Gunbroker last month for $250. It's in 95% condition (two little scratches beside and on the loading port), perfect wood, full length ammo tube.
Included the original 4X Marlin scope, rail, and rings, AND BOOKLET! FFL and shipping added, I'm into it for $290, and it's gorgeous.
Compared to my deal, yours is over-priced. Offer $250 if you really like it. If not, maybe keep watch on Gunbroker, Gunauction, etc.

Seems like $250-300 is the ball park of where it should be. From my experiences in the past, the prices aren't really negotiable on most consignment guns. I know this rife has been there for at least a month, since it was on the rack when I bought my Mossberg MVP. I may offer $275, and try to get it for $300. It may be worth a little bit of a premium for the short mag tube.

If I were in the market I would also be right around the $250 range. I have one and I'm very happy with it. My Glenfield has Ballard rifling so shooting lead bullets is a breeze.

7 years ago I bought a clean one for 220 through a forum. Prices have gone up some, but for the condition you describe, I wouldn't go above 275 out the door, and I"d be happier at 250 (in my market anyway. your market may have different pricing)

I have one, very accurate and a delight to hunt with (half magazine).
I too think given your description that the price is a bit high.
Doubt that a dealer will drop the price much, however. $300 +tax is my guess.
Too much IMO. Mine's not for sale, but at that price, I'd sell !

Keep looking.
