Cosmoline: six were 91/30's. One was like new but it was a 44. I wasn't sure of the other ones make just said Mosin $319 on the tag, stopped me right there although the seller had refinished the stock it made me wonder, till I looked at the bore then I smiled and walked away.

KiltedClaymore:
i saw an ad for Big 5 today and they were selling m-44s for $140... ON SALE!!!! the regular price listed was $200! and to think i picked my m-38 up at a gunshow for $79 including tax. came with a sling, oiler, ammo pouch, cleaning kit, and that little screwdriver thing. puts Brown Bear fmj's in groups under quarters with open sites at 75 yards. guess i got lucky.

Big 5 in Boise has M44's for $89 and in pretty good condition to (had a look at them).

Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, etc.

That, and they are marked US.

Oh, and short ofthe SKS, name me one other surplus semi-auto that is less than about $400.

I don't have a problem with the price on a decent rifle, I just don't want to pay that much for one that got ran over by a tank. All the Century ones I have seen lately have looked like that.

Mas-49. VZ-52

the problem is. EVERYONE had thier own bolt action going into ww2. few countrys had Semi Autos in any number. coming out of the war. those with bolt actions kept them for a few more years. they either just won or just lost the war and had a lot of better things to do than build a semi auto rifle. then when they decided to update, it was the era of assualt rifles. i mean STG44= 1944 AK-47 = 1947 FAL = 1953
M14= in 1950's (?)

I guess prices are headed north. I remember in '99 a big box of Polish M44's came in for $80 each from the ffl. You can't find one now for under two bills or more.

Where can I get an Enfield No.4 for under $300?
I'm looking at internet sellers, but I can't find what I'm looking for.

I got a yugo 24/47 for $120.
Other than my face being kicked apart,
a cheek pad makes it a great rifle with fairly cheap rounds.

mosin? go to a gun show, look down the barrels for a good bore,
and don't be sad to pay $100-$140
It'll treat you well.

SOG has 3 different models of Enfields for $149 - $169
PM me your e-mail and I will send you the PDF of the catalog.

I'm looking at the handpicked Savage Enfield right now, Karls. Are you the owner of S.O.G., or are you just an importer of them? What can you tell me about what I may order?

I'm just a Dealer.

I bought my Savage from Southern Ohio Guns over a year ago.
Great rifle in excellent condition. The only US made WWII rifle I can afford.
You will need a C&R or a Transfer Dealer to order FFL items from SOG.

You can find transfer dealers here:

and here:

Good Luck

Can I order an SMLE from SOG online? Or do I have to mail them?

well you will have to Mail, Fax, or EMail them some form of FFL then order it however. if i remember correct SOG requires you to have FFL on file before ordering

Kind of an unrelated question, but if a rifle has lost all of its bluing, how do you give it new bluing? Is it easy? Is it cheap?

Overall re-bluing isn't cheap or "easy", but it is a standard service offered by a real gunsmith. They have to detail strip all the parts, buff and clean any rust patches. Degreasing and chemical cleaning to reveal bare metal. They can then run thru hot bluing salts in a tank with smaller parts linked to hangers. Slightly lower cost is to have any of the large parts that need surface reconditioning is to have those glass-beaded. It produces a matte finish, which some like and some hate.

Say $150 to $200 as a ballpark value.
