As I can't figure out why the other thread got locked and I still have some questions....perhaps off the topic of primers talking prices of primers.

The last post rose another question for me, and falls into what one poster called limits:

He says "I don't worry about prices, I am concerned about aavailability.

For me during the shortages I was getting real close on LRP. That is what I need to do what I like to do. Other folks it is other primers, but point is they all got hard to find.

I set my limit at $130 per K. I saw a couple roll across for over that and I let them go. It was my self imposed limit.

I don't want to put words into your mouth but would you worry about $1 per primer. $1000 for 1000 primers. Or do you have an internal limit.

That is the point I was trying to make before it got shut down for no good reason...

I know people that just will not do .10 for a primer, and have not shot anything but from their stash in 3 years. They are getting low now, really slowed down their shooting, and are in that bind.

Do I find a new hobby was a comment one person made to me. There is a time when some event happens and it just becomes time for that new hobby, a bridge you refuse to cross to continue enjoying what you enjoy.

A new toy (rifle) is making him look at primer prices again as he just loves shooting this new rifle. It is everything that makes shooting fun for him. So he is looking at that bridge he will not cross and really thinking about crossing it. He still thinks .03 is what they should cost, I tell him that is not the world we live in anymore. And I doubt they will come down again.

So is there a limit you will pay, and over that limit you will "throw in the towel".

If I have the EXTRA money to spend then no there is not a point I plan to stop.

Eventually the extra money runs out and I am many others will not buy.

The government is doing it's best to strip away our freedom and liberty and self-worth through the means of inflation.

In 2030 when the "great reset" occurs its speculated you will have nothing, want nothing, and be happy. Inflation is the vehicle to make us all bust.

Merry Christmas and keep your powder and primers dry

I just bought 1,000 SPP for .10 at a LGS. I don't like that price and the clerk actually quipped about it for me, but - my expectation is prices are going up and I might use them in the next year or two, or I'll just have extra that I'll eventually use, and I could get them, depending on world events IMHO, they could become unavailable pretty quick if there is increased military demand. So, from the other side of the coin, that .10 might be the best price you see for a long time, and the product you are looking at could just dry up on shelves completely, so - .10 looked good enough to me to buy another brick last week. If it was .15 or .20, I would have pinched my noise at the stench of the price and not got them, probably even if it was .11 cents, don't really need them. but, I do the same with everything, eggs, bacon, if the price is super high, I just spend my dollar on something else, if I don't need it - and for the most part you don't really need much, and not buying will create a surplus in the supply side and prices will drop.

If you still have sufficient social credit, you will be provided with everything you want by The State, made by those who do not obey to benefit those who do.

I have 30 year old primers, 20 year old primers, 10 year old primers and I just put in an order for 2 bricks of primers. I have LP, SP, SR, LR, and the “magnum” version of each. My personal limit is, there is no limit. I have no intention of dying with a stockpile of anything.

Happy Holidays and Merry Good Fellows to you all! :)

Just a guess here but it probably got closed because the thread tilted into economics from H&R.

Would I pay $1000 for a 1000 primers? Not in my current situation. And I have walked away from $120/1K. I may regret that at some point in time, but that time is most likely several years down the road.

I don't worry about prices either, within my personal limits. I 100% agree that cheap and unavailable is pretty useless. But so is available and unaffordable. Like most people, I have to eat. And I have bills to pay, and I like the little things in life like living indoors and having toilet paper.

Shooting, and anything gun related really, is not inexpensive. We can find ways to cut costs, but you still have to have ammo if you want to shoot.

I tried to shy away from the reasons behind the why, this place takes a dim view on that....but yea agree.

The costs of shooting are doing nothing but going up, and we hear stories of ammo prices that are going to rise, or be in limited supply. Limited supply means more expensive, and we will deal with scalpers again.

Shooting is not inexpensive, not in any of its forms, be it something as "acceptable" as the shotgun sports. Costs for that are going up, and places to do it going down.

It really covers the entire flow of my thread. When do you hang it up. When the trip to the range is over 1hr one way away. Costs of guns, ammo or components. The decision to sideline your "guns" is fairly easy when the rent is due. And unlike some other hobbies like classic cars they don't eat monthly if they just sit, or take up as much space. There is also some value there.

Personally I still enjoy shooting and will continue as long as I can afford to do it. And that is where I am going to stay with it. This is fun.

That should have been painfully obvious, which is why I didn’t add a comment, which I usually do.

And we went political in this one even faster.

It doesn’t help anyone to argue about how much of what we buy, what we think of people who buy too little or too much, IOHMs of course. Nor does it help to accuse someone of being a good little Socialist etc, etc.

Let’s give this subject a rest
