Primers

Hmm! All I can say is don't hold your breath for the
$3.50 / $4.00 primers.
Well, since I can only hold my breath about two minutes, yea, but don't bet against it happening one of these days, folks are doing what they did last time, buying way more than they need of powder and primers, sooner or later it will come to a halt, product will stop moving, and we'll find out what the new "sale" price will be.

That's about how it always plays out isn't it? This is not our first rodeo for many of us and I doubt it's the last. Sooner or later the feeding frenzy slows or stops when everyone has their stash maxed out.

I was told at the age of 12 that I would be in a wheelchair within 5 years, and it would be for the rest of my life. 55 years old now, and still no wheelchair or walking aids, although some days are harder than others.

And about two months ago I was diagnosed with thrombocythemia, a rare form of blood cancer. I think I'll survive this too, at least for a while. Something is going to get all of us at some point in time, but staying positive goes a long way towards staying alive.

Back to primers, they are not terribly hard to find right now. Expensive compared to a couple of years ago when I started loading, but right now everything is more expensive than a couple of years ago. Powder is becoming available again too, although it might not be exactly what you want. Bullets and brass haven't been a problem for me these last couple of years.

So when life gives you lemons, make lemonade, or onion soup, or whatever else that brings joy into your life. Life is short, and primers will come back, so enjoy the time you have, because tomorrow isn't promised.

Right on, brother.

There's a max?

I think that's usually when you run out of room to store them. Then...suddenly you discover that you can story stuff hanging off the rafters

I remember when I thought ordering a pallet of Federal SPP was excessive :p

I remember when I started reloading and would read about how someone would find an 8# bottle of powder X and buy a few. Since I was only doing 45acp at the time, and a single pound of powder would get me over 1400 rounds, I couldn't wrap my head around buying multiple pounds, let alone multiple 8# jugs.

Then I started loading 357mag using H110 and the light came on. I was only going to get around 450 rounds from a pound. And I wasn't competing or practicing on a daily/weekly basis. Next up was loading 480Ruger, and then 223. Suddenly a pound was getting me less than 250 rounds (for the rifle).

Didn't understand people buying multiple bricks of primers at the time either, but now that I'm experiencing my first reloading shortage I have a better understanding.

200 bricks of primers doesn't take up much space.

Without going into specifics, I'm one of the few that saw this coming. I'm not hurting for any primers, and I am absolutely wallowing in SPP.

That being said, if Large Rifle primers approach my strike price (which, for OPSEC reasons will not be disclosed) I am hovering with ample funds for a comfortable supply.

Well, I hit the lotto yesterday morning. At 8AM yesterday I got a notification that SPP were available at Target. As fast as my fat and arthritic fingers could type I requested them. At the end they wanted a scanned form, difficult but I got it all done.

So, I might have succeeded in a 2 1/2 year quest for SPP's.

PS at 10 AM they were out of stock.

In one sense, it IS my first rodeo. Came to the party late in life. That said...I tried to begin reloading during the o bummer years, but couldn't even find a set of dies to get started, let alone everything else I'd need.
That said...my wife has become a component cheerleader...rooting me on to buy whenever I find something in stock that I need, or want. I'm bordering on being a reloading hoarder.

I'm on board with this, but I can't hold my breath that long any more. LOL

The last go around, distributors were finally over stocked and offering free hazmat, free shipping etc.
I started stocking up again for the next round of silliness.

When the free hazmat and shipping went away, prices were still reasonable.
I hope we get somewhere close to that again.

Speaking of primers. I’m loading some bulk 9mm this morning and found this in a new tray

These damn things are getting too expensive to get shorted like that ;)
That looks like a CCI sleeve. Are those of recent vintage? I haven't yet run across any CCI trays with empty slots nor with "upside down" primers like in your pic. I hope that's not a trend or a sign of the times. Did you buy those from a reputable vendor?

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Anomalies happen.

I found a .17 cal bullet in a box of 500 .30 cal Juggernauts

I found this strange primer that looked like it had been fired but had no compound in it

I got a bonus bullet in this box of .223

I recently acquired some ZSR spp. They were given to me as repayment for primers I gave a friend about a year ago. I actually had forgotten. I have given friends/club members primers when I can, with the stipulation "pay me back when you can". ZSR primers are made in Turkey and are excellent. I have reloaded and shot about 100 9mm with no problems. They fit well and ignite as they should. Thought anyone wondering about these would like to hear a real life experience. Best wishes and Merry Christmas to all!

I’m still not seeing a lot of large rifle or large pistol out there. Online it’s hit-n-miss. Locally still an endangered species. We don’t get much in the way of supplies to begin with but lp/lr even less so.

At the local Sportsman’s Warehouse they had a few sleeves (2 sleeves per person per day limit) and only CCI No. 41 and Federal LP Gold Medal Match. Since my wife was with me, I was able to pick up 4 sleeves of the Federal Large Pistol Match primers for $7.17 per 100. These days, a very good price for match primers and rare to find large pistol without having to pay shipping and hazmat.

Did some bartering with primers Saturday. Buddy owns a glass shop and I asked him to come over and help me hang some heavy glass shower doors for a bathroom remodel I'm doing in our master bathroom. I had 1300 LPP's laying around that I have no use for anymore, so paying him with those was a win-win.

Just yesterday I looked at a good supply of primers going for 90.00 to 110.00 per K
