Probably the best 1911 I've ever owned

Yes, only (1) 1911 for each hand

I could do that and keep 2 holstered at the same time. I enjoy them for sure but I was thinking about my kids and passing them on when I bought the second, dad chipped in by gifting number 3, and number 4 I wanted for the adjustable sights with the idea of participating in club level shoots.

I guess I wouldn’t mind 4 or 5 more, though no real interest in Rock Islands per se. Knowing what it costs to have one customized either by a professional or doing the work myself, I feel the base is really not the place to quibble over a few hundred dollars if you plan to shoot it frequently.

For a generational piece I feel the money is worth spending, even if quality is similar. I have fired and toyed with a couple Philippine 1911s and still believe an SA Milspec is worth the difference. If you just want a 1911 to cast lead then any of them will do, though I preferred the Metro Arms over RI or Citadel.

Everyone love there 1911’s like a family airloom! But remember, 1911’s 20 years from now will look much different and probably will be reliable as a Glock!!! Just Kidding… jezzz

I get it but some people honestly feel the 1911 simply isn’t reliable. I’d bet my life on any of mine. Whether testing magazines or ammo, I’ve yet to find anything including empty cases I can’t feed and all live ammunition has gone bang. I’d also consider myself a volume shooter, though lately less centerfire than I’d like.

(Skylerbone) I don't understand why you 1911 guys need more than 1.

Probably for the same reasons many glock guys have more than one? Just a guess on my part though.
I hate to compare them to the likes of Glock, but they also come in a variety of sizes and calibers.

Full size, top to bottom: RIA .38 Super; Ruger SR1911 10mm, Springfield Armory .45 Auto
Commander size: top, SA EMP4 9mm, bottom SA EMP4 .40S&W

that’s because your a 1911 expert. I got a double stack 1911 9mm that shoots like a laser beam, then I got a .40 DS that is a turd. got a Colt Defender that I carry, only because I found the right load, bullet, and mag (WC shorty). I have a 1911 SDS that I been working on, it’s $319 and I got it to feed empties. I have high hope for this gun! finally found some time for testing in July!!!!

I really don't know. Speaking for me after the first one I just starting gravitating to the things with a fondness for the Colt Series 70 guns.

Then a few months ago I came upon a Remington Rand WWII 1911 take home. Including the GI original holster.

The only other gun other than a 1911 I have more than one of is my S&W Model 17 of which I have two. I have more 1911 guns not pictured. I just enjoy the things and enjoy shooting them. :)

I’d count myself as an enthusiast and tinkerer, well short of an expert. The experts have forgotten more than I know (and they don’t forget anything). Like any mechanical device however, the 1911 is subject to rules. Given the correct measurements, as Tuner would often remind us, it must work. If you have one that fails in that, there are a few here who could respond to a descriptive post of what’s going wrong.

I've liked RIA's since the first one I bought, but gave it to my brother as he didn't have a home defense weapon, so I bought another one and it too is very reliable and, for the money I feel they are every bit as good as many domestic brands. One thing though, I always replace the original magazine (I forget whether they come with two) with Checkmate mags.

I recall many stories/threads discussing how well various 1911's run. Some are troublesome and some run without fail. One of the situations that sticks is that for those troublesome ones is that if it is resolved in the first RMA, they tend to leave a positive experience. If it has to go back in multiples, those don't leave favorable comments. We've certainly seen those threads come up detailing how CS has handled them. Not just RIA but the other manufacturers.

True on that note. Over a good many years my own observation is this, any manufacturer on any given day can turn out a bad gun. While some are given a bad rap as they seem to turn out more bad than others stuff happens. A really good smith for .45 ACP 1911 guns is hard to find. Learning the 1911 is interesting as well as fun. While we all want a gun, any gun, to function flawlessly out of the box that is not always the case, regardless of who made it. I like 1911 guns and while some they do, some they don't and some you just can't tell. :)

If only I could bring myself to shoot enough of my stash to make that a worthwhile day!

Curious what that is in rounds? These days when I send one out the thought is there goes $.XX. They'll end up that way anyhow so I'm wondering if I'll get a better feeling when these things are at $.5X+...like selling stocks. LOL

Well I used to regularly buy 2 boxes of lead bullets (500/ea) a month during those months fit to shoot, and 1 box for every month that wasn’t (and go shoot anyway). Not huge volume compared to many but they were my primary range pistols.

I’ve got cheaper hobbies though, cost nothing to paddle around a lake or rock hound on a riverbank once you have boats, canoes, and kayaks.

Yeah, but what else did you buy/reload the ammo for? I keep a "stash" of SD ammo that I never touch, for the 1911 I generally carry, but the rest? I take two or three and maybe 100 rounds for each, it keeps me busy long enough, and I stay familiar with the differences between them (recoil, POA, etc.). If I happen to shoot up all the ammo I have for one or the other, then I have something to do on a 'rainy day' at the loading bench. I spend a decent portion of my range day chasing brass; I really should make a simple brass catcher/deflector I can set up at my shooting position. A few feet of 1-1/2" pvc pipe, some elbows and a piece of deer netting and some zip ties, and no more chasing brass. But, I've been lazy.
