Hey, Gents!

Powdervalleyinc.com has a shotgun powder from Alliant called Promo, at a great price, but I can't find pistol loading data for it anywhere. I'm told that it can be used as a sub for Red Dot based on charge weight, but that's pretty sketchy data in my view. Anybody out there got something more concrete for loading with Promo? A data table would be great, a pointer to a website would be even better... THANKS!

Alliant hasn't put any data out, but it may be because it doesn't work well at above shotgun pressures.

You will want to contact Alliant and be sure, but IIRC Promo measures by weight as a replacement for Red Dot.

Now this is just my recollection of having read this (probably in Reloader) somewhere, so please double check. I may have the "color" all wrong.

EDIT:

I just found the article, Reloader Pg.20, current issue. The article is about Clay DOT being a substitute for Clays. In the article, the author intimates that Reliant says Promo and Red DOT are equivalent by weight (NOT Volume). However, the author also mentions that Promo is not listed in their data for metallic cartridge reloading.

Again, call and ask, and if they recommend it, let us know.
