Just came back from a gun show.

There "was" one 8 lb container of Promo that sold before I got there.

Many 8 lb containers of powder such as Red Dot/Green Dot/Blue Dot/Titegroup/Universal/HS-6/Longshot/700x/800x were available along with 1 lb containers of popular powders like HP-38/Bullseye/Power Pistol/BE-86/WST/Titegroup/WSF along with many other pistol powders.

As expected, there were plenty of 1/4/8 lb containers of Alliant/Hodgdon/IMR rifle powders.

So, Promo exists!

It sure was good to see so many popular powders for sale and without any long lines for powder.

Not hard to get exited when we see "our powder" after what we been through!

I saw some promo the other day at one of my lgs's. Big jug. No small ones. Saw some big jugs of Red Dot and 700x too.

At the gun show in Albuquerque today there were several dealers with good assortments of 1 pound cans of powder and even some IMR4895 in 8 pounders. It's coming back.

Just got my very first pounds of 231 and Bullseye last week in addition to an 8lb keg of Unique. It was literally the first time in my 2 years of reloading to find decent amount of pistol powder locally. The mfg are catching up! Yeeha.

Yup powder is slowly coming back.

But if you think it's been bad - just watch if hillary gets elected.
It'll 10 years before we recover.

Really? I thought they had 4lb jugs. Gtk.

Guess that explains the lack of small jugs but doesn't explain my lack of proper memory.

Nice, thanks for the update B. Wish I needed some powder lol, nothing like cracking open a new container of something that ive been wanting to try out.

It stretches pretty far too. Can load around 1700 9mm or so per lb. Kinda a win/win.

I've been using Red Dot and its great for accurate 10mm loads. Just surprised that i like it more in 10mm than in 9mm.

No, Promo is not exactly the same powder as Red Dot while W231 is the same exact powder as HP-38.

If you look at the comparison picture below, Promo has flatter, larger round flakes compared to Red Dot's more crinkly shaped flakes with occasional red flakes. My first 8 lb container of Promo looked like Red Dot mixed with larger round flakes but my current container of Promo essentially all look like larger round flakes.

And as indicated by Alliant, I reference Red Dot load data for Promo but by weight only as they result in different case fill for the same powder charge weight - http://www.alliantpowder.com/products/powder/promo.aspx

I use Promo for my shotshells. Alliant says that we can use the same load data as for Red Dot.

Just verify weights. Everybody is saying it has the same characteristics but it meters differently. Your powder measure will be set differently for a load of RD than for the same weight load in Promo. The same WEIGHT loads should shoot identically. That's why data is interchangeable between the two.

I think that it would be a prudent move to make plans to have at least several years worth of the powders that you use before November 1. Start saving your allowance and start putting powder in the bunker if your low on supplies. Don't forget primers and bullets also.

Yep

get your insurance now while you can

after what happened this week you best be

proactive ..........just saying :what:

You do realize this is self-defeating? If everybody starts hoarding then there won't be any supplies to buy.

No, as discussed to death in multiple threads, component shortages occur as a result of simple supply vs demand.

And I do not believe THR alone can trigger another component shortage.

However, during the last two component shortages, I wished I had bought more Promo at $87-$94/8 lbs as I used Promo for most of my pistol loads while saving popular powders like W231/HP-38.

Still at $113/8 lbs, Promo is a good "hedge/insurance" against future shortages as it works well in 38Spl/9mm/40S&W/45ACP/45Colt so you can save more expensive popular powders while using up the cheaper stuff.

I use Promo just because it produces accurate loads, particularly for my 9mm carbine loads - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=10286159#post10286159

And Promo is finally back in stock and staying in stock:
