Pyrodex Corrosive?

Don't need to make my own caps. Have several thousand Remington #11 caps bought prior to the Obama will outlaw muzzleloader ammo panic for $2.99 per hundred.

Three points to be made: Just read an article from as chemist who says all muzzle loading powders are corrosive, some more, some less, even 777. So regardless, most guns have to be cleaned on a regular basis. Point 2: A kicker duplex load is a good idea to guarantee ignition. Though I use some Goex for a starter, I have also ground down some Pyrodex to do the same. Finally, sounds like Goex is history, warehouse fire and now Hodgden wants to close them down or sell. Now what are you going to shoot? I have only seen Goex BP for sale in Wisconsin, no Swiss or any other BP.

It's order online or buy subs. That's the reality of it today in 2021.

Order online until they outlaw that, then I guess we have to make our own. I'll miss Olde Eynsford but regular Goex I wont because I haven't bought any in years because it's the dirtiest stuff you can buy. If people are shooting that no wonder they complain about black powder being nasty. I mostly shoot Olde Eynsford or the imported powders anyway so I'll just be shooting Swiss once the Olde E supply runs out.

Ignorance is bliss. I've never used anything but Dupont, Gearhart Owens and Goex brand black powder. It always worked fine for me. If I ever locate any of the other brands I will definitely stock up.

I have seen some terrible damage from people not cleaning guns after shooting Pyrodex.
If you don't like cleaning guns don't shoot muzzle loaders. That Simple.

Swiss is optimal for black. Triple 7 is my favorite sub. When those are unavailable, which is often, Pyo P sees me through in style. Good stuff - got to clean it though. Use your favored solvent with plenty of water and Bob's your uncle

Goex sucks.

"But I do clean my guns thoroughly and within 8 hours after shooting them".
That right there. So, yes, your wrong to believe pyrodex isn't more corrosive than other powders.

Thats like saying "I don't know where these people get the idea a Z28 goes faster than a Isetta, of course I never drive my corvette over 15mph".
The reality is that many of us have seen pyro destroy guns. I know I have. When I use pyro, I clean within four hours. When I use Goex, I clean by the next day. I once bought a pistol that went 48 hours without cleaning after shooting with pyro. I bought it for parts for 10$. I was with the guy the friday he shot it. By monday it was trash.

You can believe it all you want, and if it doesn't apply to you, thats fine, but don't suggest it to others. Lots of people don't get around to cleaning, even the very aggressive types.

Point taken. What works for me in my area may not work for somebody else in another area. I still say it's no harder to clean than real bp. Swiss anyway. Area shouldn't affect that.

Wash. - I'm OCD enough to clean no later than the night of every shoot, even on a camp out. Because of that it may be that I have no idea just how destructive Pyrodex can be. I've used a lot of that and it treated me well but if it ate one of my guns I'd no doubt have a different impression.

-Yes. I actually like Pyrodex, But I do feel like new shooter need to know. I clean VERY quickly after cleaning, so Pyro works fine.

Cowhide Cliff -- Many, many years ago when I was much, much younger I had a cap and ball revolver be covered in a white salty residue from Pyrodex by the next day from a late night hunt.
There's the answer right there. Never wiped the gun down after shooting. Never thought about cleaning it. Never thought about wiping the bore. You would be surprised what just a little water, Moose Milk, alcohol, or your favorite cleaner will do for a gun after shooting, EVEN if you don't clean it completely until the next day. I have found wiping the bore after even after a few shots will greatly improve accuracy no matter what powder you use. So go ahead and blame some one; any one; just don't go look in the mirror at the DUDE who is really to blame.
