Hey guys, has Sig Sauer discointinued the Sp 2022? That gun is in the running for my first gun when I get my permit. As of right now, I am going with a M&P .40 but after learning about the SP 2022, I might have to reconsider.

How reliable is the SP 2022 compared to the 226 or the M&P?

I think they dropped it in favor of the P250, which is par for the course of bad decisions they've been making as of late.

The French National Police are contracted to use the 2022 until the year 2022 (hints the name), so no, it has not been discontinued. As far as choosing between the 2022 and the P250, the 2022 wins hands down. It's actually one of the only products that SIG has come out with in recent years that hasn't been plagued with major reliability issues.

Not true... the Sp2022 was adopted by the French in a major contract acquisition. They will be in service until 2022. This was the rebirth of this red headed step child known as the Sig Pro.

It has since been adopted by several US govt agencies...

Its a solid gun and in the under $500 9mm market a great choice. The only down side to the gun is the long DA trigger pull. It is very smooth but long. The SP2022 is a much better gun than the P250. It is rock solid and always has been even when it was the SP2009. The P250 not so much. I personally like the smaller grip insert the current guns are shipping with. Get a P2022 with an internal extractor if you can find one. IMHO

I'll give you a response from someone that owns both. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the P250. It had some initial issues, it is a Sig and they have been worked out. Never a single hiccup with mine, it eats whatever I feed it without complaint. Very accurate, overbuilt and sturdy as hell. I will say that it is not for everyone. The DAO trigger takes some getting used to. The SP2022 is not out of production. It is still available. It is a fine pistol as well. It is a bit larger than a Glock 19 or a P250, It is a bit taller with a much higher bore axis. It is very controlable and utterly reliable, just as the P250 is. Hold them both if possible, fire them both, and see which one YOU like. If you do go with the 250 make sure you get the newer frame style. The older frames are obsolete, and, were the first ones from which all of the initial complaints arose from. The new frames are good to go.

Just my .02, but the P250 is the only 'bad' Sig ever made, and by bad, I mean deviating from utterly reliable as is the Sig tradition.

I'd still take the P250 over some competitors, having said that. Everything is relative.

Even though Sig is not renowned for their polymer frame lineup, their are many on the Sigforums who swear by their 2022s.

I think the criticism of Sig lately has centered more around their customer service, pricing and inconsistencies in terms of product offerings and confused marketing.

SP2022 is great. I bought one instead of a 250. Love it, more accurate than me, and i hated the DAO trigger on the 250.

World class gun is the 2022. I put the real Small grip on mine and get a warm feeling running down my leg every time I pick it up.

I've owned a few Sigs over the years, the last one was the P250 and that was the only Sig I hated. Sure it was reliable but no way, no how could I get used to that looooong trigger pull. If I tried rapid fire, I often wouldn't let the trigger out far enough to reset and nothing would happen when trying to fire the gun. Not something I want happening if I ever needed it in an emergency. Sold it and bought a Ruger SR9c instead. I probably would have bought the P2022 if I could have found one,

This is a legitimate complaint, from a legitimate ex owner. Great post! I have no problem with someone admiting that the P250's trigger is not for everyone. But in regards to it being unreliable, thats just garbage. I love my SP2022 as well, and I'm sure you will too!
