at some stores here i see the no firearms allowed with the big red cross through the pistol then saying ars and some numbers. if i ignore this sign what is the worst that can happen?? can they call the cops on me right away or do they have to ask me to leave first? i conceal carry, and remember ITS JUST A QUESTION.

I'm by no means an expert so take this with a grain of salt (as all things on the internet)

Check if AZ has a law that says it is unlawful to posses a firearm in a public building that clearly prohibits firearms, or some other such law.

In many states such as my state of Maine, the only repercussion is that you can be asked to leave and if you DO NOT comply you are then trespassing.

1. Yes, they can call the cops on you right away.

2. The cops can't legally do anything, though, until someone under the employment of the store asks you to leave and you refuse.

Be cautious in how you approach this. If the sign is properly posted by an establishment that serves alcohol the charge is class 3 misdemeanor if you ignore and carry anyway. Properly posted means by the liquor license, and it is your responsibility to look first.

At least now we in AZ can carry in a place that serves alcohol so long as they do not post, and providing one has a valid CCW.

I just received my CCW a couple of months ago and this was a pretty hot topic. My understanding from that class (and further info at azdps.gov/ccw) is that if no firearms is posted, you may not carry there. If you fail to see the sign and enter anyway, once you learn of the prohibition, you must remove the firearm from the establishment (leave or lock in your car). You are only guilty of a crime if you knowingly refuse to honor the prohibition. That goes for places that are not posted and request that you remove your firearm form the establishment as well.

Basically, you're allowed to goof, but not to refuse. I look for signs wherever I go, but I'm not gonna spend a lot of time searching for prohibitive signage that may not be posted in the most obvious places. If I see it, I comply. I haven't run into a situation where the signs aren't clearly posted (but I haven't run into a lot of signs, either).

Hope this helps.
