Questions about broomhandles

I just have a few questions about broomhandle mausers.

I've seen them chambered for 7.62mm and 7.63mm caliber rounds, as well as 9mm (the "Red 9" versions) and .45acp cal. (I believe it was a chinese version). Are the first two discrepencies, or were they really chambered .01mm apart? Can rounds be readily found for the first two? How about tracer rounds for all of them? I know 9mm tracers are easy to find, but what about the other 3? (I'm getting to my reasoning here)

Next, has anyone ever converted a broomhandle for accepting a magazine instead of using stripper clips? If not, could it be done?

I'm not really interested in finding a pristine quality broomhandle to house in my safe for forever and a day. What I'm hoping to find is a functional 9mm or .45 cal. (preference on the .45) version that hopefully could be converted to use a magazine. I can always have it refinished, if I choose.

Ok, here's why I'm asking. I want to build a functional replica of Han Solo's DL-44 heavy blaster pistol from Star Wars.

So obviously, I'm gonna need a pistol scope that hopefully at least resembles the one he used (yes, I'm aware the movie prop was actually a rifle scope fitted on). Can anyone recommend an offset pistol scope like that one? If they need pictures, I can dig some up (a simple Google for "DL-44 heavy blaster" or "Han Solo's blaster" should bring something up). Since the sights would most likely be impared, I was also considering using a red-dot scope. It would change the replica a bit, but it could still be considered a "DL-44".

Reason I'm partial to the .45 caliber version is that, well, this is suppose to be a "heavy" blaster pistol that packs more punch, but has less range. However, regardless of expense, I've made up my mind that this gun will only fire tracer rounds to make it as authentic of a replica as possible (I just might not shoot it much if it gets too expensive, haha).

So can anyone help me out here. This really is just a pet project I want to get working on, but am trying to find out as much info as possible before hand just so I know what I'm getting into.

You certainly can do as you wish, but I think a genuine Mauser is far more chic than the DL-44 ever will be. I would go so much further to say it seems to me almost sacrilegious to maim a Mauser to get a Solo toy. If this is for re-enactment, etc., why not just buy an airsoft broomhandle and modify as you like? It will be far cheaper and you can afford to mess up in the rework. A SoCal source of such is Jungletoys, but you can certainly get some on ebay.

The 7.62 Russian Tokarev and the 7.63 Mauser are essentially the same. There were two 9s; the 9x19 Parabellum[or Luger] and the 9x25 Mauser. You should be able to get ammo for all but the 9x25, but tracers only for the 9x19 and 45 I think.
