Had a wonderfully sunny and warm day here in the Pacfic "Northwet" to go put 120 rounds down range with my new handgun.

In the hand it feels just like any other XD with the exception of the grip being a bit more "aggressive" in terms of its surface texture. I tried all three backstraps that come with the gun and found the one installed at the factory was the best for me. Like any XD it was quite accurate right out of the box and it was fun as all get out to shoot. Since it's a little smaller than a service model XD I noticed a bit more snap in the recoil as I had expected.

At this time I think I will save up the money and send it off to Powder River Precision to have some TruGlo's put on it. I've never been a fan of stock pistol sights. I just find it much easier to pick up on bright sights and get them and keep them on target. I also plan to have a PRP trigger job done. I was under the impression that the XDm trigger was supossed to be better than a XD in terms of length of pull and travel to reset. The trigger is nice and crisp but the travel to reset is nothing to brag about at all. Seems like there is a lot of travel to reset. However, there is no mistaking when the trigger resets as I could feel and hear it.

I had one mag that was about 50/50 for not allowing the slide to lock back after the last shot. I am assuming it's a mag/follower issue.

When handling the XDm and a service model XD I found I liked the way the XDm felt in my hand better. I have a XD 45 tac and I like the way the XDm feels but I like shooting my 45 better probably because of the sights (I have TruGlo's on the 45) and the perceived less recoil. The 45 just isn't as snappy.

The best part of my XDm experience so far (other than shooting it of course)was cost. The first gun store I went to wanted $700 plus paperwork fees. I ended up going to a buddies resale shop and he ordered one in for me and I was out the door for $588.

Thanks for that. An XDm is on my horizon, and your observations are useful.
