Is it possible to "remove" the auto-indexing from a new RCBS Pro 2000?
Also even the auto-indexing "on" could you run 1 bullet at a time in the press?
(Ie. not spill any powder or prime a case when their is no case in the station)

Thanks!

I just bought a new pro2000 and it is manual indexing so I'm sure u can make ur auto indexing one a manual. I figured if I want to auto index then I'll buy the upgrade kit.

Yes...you have the remove the part bolted to the left side of the press. With that off you have to push the lever back and forth to index....or you could buy the manual shell plate base and replace the auto advance one, and buy a star wheel. Look at the Auto-index upgrade manual and reverse the directions. To put it all back together right you will probably need the 3 part gage set (comes in bag 2 of the upgrade kit, or free from RCBS for the asking).

Yes you can run a bullet one at a time. The powder measure only dispenses when a case is under it.

The primer feed is another matter. Either remove the primer strip after you prime your case, or stick a Popsicle stick in where the primer feed cam goes back and forth to stop it feeding, just before you push the handle forward to prime that one case. Even if you prevent it from feeding, you still gotta use some common sense...if there is a primer left above the priming rod it WILL get pushed up on the next stroke. Stopping the feed just before you prime your one case, leaves it empty for the next strokes until you release it.

Users can cause themselves an aggravation if they inadvertently push even a little past ram-bottom toward the forward primer setting stroke. A primer can get stuck part way up and cause a primer feed jam. That commonly happens during the learning curve. If it happens to you you just press the primer back down. I use the base of a .223 bullet.;) To prevent both those little annoyances, I made 2 simple mods to easily control either situation. The "How To's" are postedHERE. With those in place I can turn the primers off and on at will, and also prevent the primer rod from pushing, anytime I want.

One more tip...do NOT pull a primer strip out backwards! You WILL break things inside, you will get pissed off, scream at RCBS, and maybe even order their primer tube conversion for really impatient people. That would be a shame. You will miss out on one of the best features of this press. Have fun.:) (they will BTW, replace anything you break...even by your own fault...free in a couple of days.)

GW Staar,

WOW!!! I'm going to have to bookmark that link for when I get my Pro 2000! The first MOD is fairly easy to understand how it works. The second one I'm not sure I fully understand how it works. Do you have a video of the second mod? Not having the press in front of me makes it a bit more complex. I take it that the device you made is a "stopper" that won't allow the shell plate to go all the way down and thus won't allow the primer mechanices to feed a new primer to the cases.

You send this ideas to RCBS yet? Would be nice if they incorporated them into the press or provided an "add-on" kit for the current presses.

You ever think of doing this on the side for other users? They mail you their press you do the MODs and send it back to them for a fee of course. :)

Yes. Remove the die, and install it on your single stage. lol But seriously, you CAN do it all on a PRO 2000 manual indexer pretty easy, but if you've upgraded to auto index, it's just not worth the effort to downgrade it to manual every time you have some small chore to attend to. Get yourself a good price on a single stage and you won't be sorry.

Exactly...see not so complicated.;)

The RCBS press is the simplest progressive on the planet...very few parts, and nothing to have to keep synced once you set it up. Just keep it clean and lightly lubed. The primer rod pushes up through the primer strips as the ram lowers further than normal botton, when the handle is raised and pushed towards the bench. The second mod is actually simpler than the first simple tool, because all it does is prevent the primer stroke, by stopping that additional downward movement of the ram. That means, if you have a few cases already primed for instance, and don't want you interrupt your loading setup and momentum, you just take the primer strip "off line" and rotate mod 2 to prevent the primer rod from raising, and you can keep loading until the pre-primed cases are done. The just release the two tools and continue where you left off.

RCBS knows...they are very silent about their intentions...and they sure don't show any excitement over anything like this. But they listen, and eventually they show that they do...in their own good time.:)

:)

Never have...I have a business to take care of...not much time for that, so I show you how to do it yourself....for free. You can do both of these in a weekend. They really are easy...just study it out for a few minutes go collect the parts, and put them together. The best part is I don't do anything to the press....it is not altered at all...possible because the press is so simple.

I also added a Hornady Bullet Feeder to mine. Chose it also for its simplicity. On the Hornady, I posted a 2 part review and four videos on this forum. Do a search on my posts, if you want to have a look. (and yes those are also in the AR15.com Gateway thread.)

BTW, I agree with altitude 19 about manualizing the auto. I wouldn't bother either. But you don't have to buy a single station for now. (I might suggest you save up for one eventually...just more convenient to have both)

With just the Pro 2000 though, loading rifle requires that you resize first, then prep the sized cases off-press before you prime, charge, and seat. The easiest way to do that is just to buy an extra die plate and screw in your sizer die in #1 only(other stations empty). Also unhook the spring on the Uniflow Powder Measure, lift it off the powder die. Then run all your lubed cases through. When done sizing, trim and prep the cases off-press, including a short run in a tumbler to remove the lube. Finally the fast part...insert your die plate with the powder cop and seater (or seater and separate crimp die),reattach and ready the Powder Meausre, insert a primer strip, and crank away to accurate, finished ammo.

One addition you can try on the first operation...put an RCBS Lube die in #1 and the Sizer in #2. That's even faster.
