Is it possible to "remove" the auto-indexing from a new RCBS Pro 2000?
Also even the auto-indexing "on" could you run 1 bullet at a time in the press?
(Ie. not spill any powder or prime a case when their is no case in the station)
Thanks!
Yes...you have the remove the part bolted to the left side of the press. With that off you have to push the lever back and forth to index....or you could buy the manual shell plate base and replace the auto advance one, and buy a star wheel. Look at the
Auto-index upgrade manual and reverse the directions. To put it all back together right you will probably need the 3 part gage set (comes in bag 2 of the upgrade kit, or free from RCBS for the asking).
Yes you can run a bullet one at a time. The powder measure only dispenses when a case is under it.
The primer feed is another matter. Either remove the primer strip after you prime your case, or stick a Popsicle stick in where the primer feed cam goes back and forth to stop it feeding, just before you push the handle forward to prime that one case. Even if you prevent it from feeding, you still gotta use some common sense...if there is a primer left above the priming rod it WILL get pushed up on the next stroke. Stopping the feed just before you prime your one case, leaves it empty for the next strokes until you release it.
Users can cause themselves an aggravation if they inadvertently push even a little past ram-bottom toward the forward primer setting stroke. A primer can get stuck part way up and cause a primer feed jam. That commonly happens during the learning curve. If it happens to you you just press the primer back down. I use the base of a .223 bullet.
To prevent both those little annoyances, I made 2 simple mods to easily control either situation. The "How To's" are posted
HERE. With those in place I can turn the primers off and on at will, and also prevent the primer rod from pushing, anytime I want.
One more tip...do
NOT pull a primer strip out backwards! You WILL break things inside, you will get pissed off, scream at RCBS, and maybe even order their primer tube conversion for really impatient people. That would be a shame. You will miss out on one of the best features of this press. Have fun.
(they will BTW, replace anything you break...even by your own fault...free in a couple of days.)
