As my gun dealer says: "Someone who shoots as often as you will not be satisfied with the durability of a Taurus." I would extend that to the Witness and Charles Daly.

If you don't shoot often, they'll be fine. But don't go putting 20k rounds a year through them because you'll be disappointed.

I've put about 10,000 rounds through my Taurus 92 yearly for six or seven years. It has regular spring changes (nothing special) and it does have a target guide rod with an integral frame buff.

It's my daily carry weapon.

The only thing to break on it was the locking block, years ago (common on these pistols). Taurus send me a new one for free.

As my gun dealer says:

Yep, they and the gun mags are always right, whatever you do don't listen to the people that actually shoot them.

Just for the record I have 5 BHP's in 9mm and .40 and two Witness pistols (Elite Match .40 and PS in 9mm). So I may actually be qualified to talk about both.

Eric G. may be more qualified though"

Taurus PT92 is probably one of the best guns they have ever put out. I have had mine for 8 years now and not one jam, FTE, anything and I shoot it quite a bit. It is very accurate. Don't listen to anyone saying they are second tier guns.

well, sorry to dredge up an old post but i figured i should prbly finish what i started. i didnt get to go shopping as soon as i figured (due to my wedding...what a headache...lol). anyway, i ended up getting a hi-power from my dad/grandpa, so i decided to buy the beretta 92 w/ my share of the gift money. me and my new wife took the long trip to omaha today to pick up my gift...and much to my suprise we ended up bringing another 9mm home w/ us. i was looking at an xd, when my usually pretty shy woman asked to see a pistol in the case (at cabellas). i wais pretty amazed that she piped up like that. the guy behind the counter (who ironically said he had never shot a handgun before) handed her a taurus 24/7 pro, and she pretty much fell in love w/ it there. "I'm getting this" was all that it took. and i was just fine w/ that. if fits both of our hands well and was less then $400. at first i really wasnt very impressed, it seems kind of cheap (namely when the safety is engaged), but turned out to be a great buy. 17 rounds of 9mm in a really ergonomic grip. we took it out today and fired 400 or so rounds thu it and i was pretty impressed. not amazingly accurate, but plenty so for what we were doing w/ it. trigger isnt great, but servicable. really like the dimples on the frame too, good reminder of where to keep the fingers. and that single action that resorts back to double, works like a charm. very first shot (cci blazer brass) ftf, pulled the trigger again and boom. 9 out of 50 did that (in 2 different pistols). other then that it ate pretty much everything we could find to feed it (including some mis-matched ammo that was my great grandfathers, pbly purchased in the late 60's or early 70's). i must say that even tho i am happy w/ the hi-power and my un-fired 92, im very, very impressed w/ the 24/7. a good pistol for the price.

Well I own a CZ75 the Witnesses grandfather. Owned both the Beretta and the Taurus PT92. And a Hi Power here and there. Tough call. I loved my two tone PT92. It was as good a shooter as my Beretta. But the safety was in the right place with a cocked and locked option which makes the gun a much easier proposition to shoot in a big double stack gun. And the beretta style open top slide makesa jam damn near impossibe.
The CZ being all seel will probably be around whenthe others have long died. Not that I'll wear any of them out in my lifetime. Great ergo's. Great trigger. And superb accuracy. To me it an updated Hi Power offering you choices on carry fashion (cocke and locked or DA/SA) with a better trigger and no mag disconnect.
I hate to say it but the Hi Power would need some work to get the trigger pull ofg the other guns. You've got to get rid of the magazine safety first. It does have a great feel to it. And has good accuracy. But I just
think the other newer designs just offer more versatility. If I had to choose it would probably go like this.
1. CZ/CZ clone-modern day Hi Power with a better out of the box trigger, more accurate,
thin slide even though a large pistol. and built like a tank.
2. Taurus-great shooter at a great price. Proably the only Taurus I could recommend
without reservation. Big but comfortable, lots of rounds, accurate, and almost impossible to jam.
3. Hi Power-yes a classic. But it needs work to get a decent trigger pull. offers less rounds. And doesn't allow for as many carry style options.
