This is my first post to what looks like a very informative shooting forum.

Do you have any good recommendations for books that teach tactical pistol use? ? I have only scratched the surface and looking to go further.

thanks

A book?

If I had to recommend a book, I'd say, "In the Gravest Extreme." Knowing when to pull a gun and when not to use deadly force is a LOT more important than knowing how to pull a trigger.

Take a class or three. You'll get more out of a good class or two than a bookshelf of books.

They've also got some great courses, as exemplified by this.

However, I would recommend Lethal Force Instute 1 as a starter. Mas has a masterful way of presenting things, especially as they relate to firearm safety. If you can't get there, at least try to get LFI Handgun Safety. It's the same one that is presented in every one of his courses prior to hitting the range. Another good one is Judicious Use of Deadly Force.

+1 on anything by Massad Ayoob.

Tactical Reality and More Tactical Reality by Louis Awerbuck.

Real World Survival by Walt Rauch

Principles of Personal Defense by Jeff Cooper.

The Jeff Cooper book isn't directly about the tactical use of the pistol, but it's a classic treatise on mindset.

I think The Complete Book Of Combat Handgunning (Chuck Taylor) and Combat Handgunnery 6th Editition (Mas Ayoob) are a worthy starting point.

I also think that the paladin press DVD's from Kelly McCann (aka Jim Grover) are phenomenal tools. Not everyone who writes a book or makes a video or has a "class" or "training seminar" is worth a hooey.

One of the things I like about Kelly McCann is that his method lends itself to self instruction and with the economy going further and further south, it is nice to be able to save some money, but stay on the ball and even improve.

As far as trying to clarify your mindset, I would recommend:

Living the Martial Way : A Manual for the Way a Modern Warrior Should Think by Forrest E. Morgan

There are others that should be read, but that is one of the best of them.

Andy Stanford's Surgical Speed Shooting is where I would start.

i agree, all i need is to have my copy signed by the man himself and i wil be happy.

but better than the above imho is.....

Combat Focus Shooting by Rob Pincus.

i highly reccomend it, and if you could only have one book i say go with the book by Mr. Pincus. though the book is great his course is even better. so i am trying to say get the book, learn what you can from reading, and then take his course.
