I planned to put the Scout base in place of the original sight and I was going to put on a BSA Red Dot. Wal-Mart didn't have a BSA but they had a Tasco Red Dot. Alas, it was made in China. I don't like to buy from communist countries. I like the J-Point Red Dot. Of course it costs a lot more. I would be willing to pay more for something made in the USA. Does someone have a decent Red Dot on their SKS that is made in America?

you do realize you've got a communist gun right? might as well make it all match. all red dots under 400 bucks are made overseas. I highly recommend the millet multidot on sale at academy right now. 50 bucks for a normally $100+ dot. I've got one on my ar and it's been great. the truglo $30 red dots have held up pretty good for me as well. (2 ar's and an sks) the tasco cheap red dot wanders on my 22.

I would suggest foregoing the red dot on your SKS. Instead I would look into http://www.tech-sights.com/ made in Hartsville, SC:)

I have a tech-sight on my norinco SKS and can hit clay pigeon's lined on my clubs berm at 120 yards. If you add a williams firesight to your front sight, you have poor mans red dot.

I'm still laughing from that communist gun comment. I thought the same thing!
An Aimpoint or EoTech would run a higher tag, but would not only last you a long time, would preform on many different rifles you choose to mount it on. I made the mistake of buying a cheapo "Redhead" red dot that I couldnt mount on the rail of My airsoft gun for legal squirell popping, and wouldnt mount well on my REAL .308 but the guy at bass pro was eager to sell it. and claimed it was good. shows you somthing there.
by the way, both rifles have a 1913 rail, and the airsoft gun had Armalite on the side, so was licenced and legit. full metal.
Still, the sight would not mount.

My SKS is a Russian model. The way things are going, I may some day have to defend myself against communists with it. This seems rather fitting. They sold me a reliable, inexpensive rifle for $100. Ammo for it is the cheapest. Voila, the most battle rifle for the least money.

Actually, my rifle is beautiful. I have never seen another as nice. I took the stock off and hand-rubbed it with linseed oil. My friends got the cheaper Chinese rifles. They aren't nearly as nice and they don't shoot as well. I've been told that this Russian model may be worth $300 now, but I don't know if this is true.

I've seen Russian SKSs going for over $500, some of which have had a whole lot of ammo through them and less than excellent care. I wouldn't sell mine at all, not for any price. It's all original and all numbers match, and I've had at most 5 or 6 non operator-induced malfunctions in the 20 years or so I've owned it. That's at least 6-10,000 rounds. I agree they are beautiful weapons compared to the Chinese version. I'd like to put an eotech or other good aftermarket sight on mine too, but haven't looked into the prices or alterations that may be required. As it is, it's very accurate with the iron sight up to 100 yards, even without raising the rear ramp, and that's about the farthest range I normally use it at. I have a 30.06 for farther range if need be.

The red dot probably had a 3/8" dovetail rather than the 1913 picatinny or weaver base. Meant for an airgun or .22 - the different bases (dovetail - weaver/picatinny) are not interchangeable.

This is my Russian SKS. No need for a red dot on this one, but I do plan on getting a set of tech sights.

Red-Dot on SKS

I found one for sale on AR-15.com from a person named Marsh, granted it was manufactured in China, but so was My Sino-Soviet I mounted it on . I believe I paid $69 shipped . Works great as I mounted it using a Tapco Gas Tube and filed it to fit perfect so it still holds zero after 200 sum rounds. ....WVleo

Particularly from people who use tech sights in the rear and williams post on the front.

If you go this route, just remember to get the TS-200 model (which is elevation adjustable) since the addition of the williams front post is NON- adjustable for elevation!

Unless your red dot is a real Aimpoint or Eotech (I think) it's going to have something made in China in it.

If you want a good inexpensive red dot, I'd recommend checking out Primary Arms. They sell knock offs made in China there. The difference is that they don't try to tell you that their sights are something that they aren't and they stand behind what they sell. Nice people and the sell everything from the knock off stuff to Nightforce.
