Rem Oil Use.

I use it for general light cleaning such as when you want to wipe carbon and soot out of an action.

I use it for wiping down to remove fingerprints.

I will use it for lubricant if I happen to have some on the range when shooting and need a dab of oil.

The old stuff was better and I am down to my last couple of cans. The new stuff doesn’t clean as well I think.

I am looking for a suitable replacement that matches my cleaning regiment.

I have some. Use it mostly on shotguns.
Lucas Synthetic lately, and just refill it from the packets coming with most new guns.

But if it's on my bench and it's the closest, it's probably what I'm going to grab. I probably have 8+ different lubes on my bench

I used to think oil was oil. I never use it for cleaning, just lubrication. I used Hoppes a lot as it is thicker than rem oil.

I am now using Lucas extreme duty gun oil and I do think it is better. Certainly made a difference on my 1911 trigger. One of these days I'll have to try Mobil One

I pledge no loyalties to gun oils, use them all and get what is available but mostly stick to 3 in 1 oil and won't pay for the fancy stuff that is high dollar. After more than 50 years all my firearms still function well. Lately I use Ballistol it lubricates , cleans, and polishes the furniture on my rifles.

I've never used it very much, but I have managed to empty at least one can over the years. These days, I would use Hornady One Shot for any application where I used to employ Rem Oil.

I would like to see where and how those name brands, like RemOil, fill those little cans. I would almost bet over half of them use the same spigot at the same refinery.

I've used Rem Oil for so long, the metal cans it used to come in have changed to plastic bottle. I still have an old metal squirt can about the size of 3-in-one oil. And I still have a clear plastic 1 oz bottle with a syringe on top to get into tight places. I use a few other oils, but Rem Oil has always been around, and I can always find it at local stores. It's works. No complaints.

Count me in the "nothing special; I use it if a little thin" camp.

It is cheap and it comes in handy small sizes that are good for travel and shooting bags.

I used to use a lot of Remoil 20+ years ago. For the most part it was fine but my parkerized 870 Express always struggled with corrosion. I've since switched to Eezox and it does better at rust protection.

I still keep an old container of Remoil in my range bag "just in case" but I don't think I've opened that bottle in years.

When did it change and what difference did you notice?
The can changed, it had a squared top, and the new cans have a very pronounced sloped top. In use, the older stuff seems to remove carbon/fouling better. I think the older stuff has more solids in it, it's a bit thicker.

Here is a pic of one of the last 2 cans I purchased. I got them after the switch, which happened right at the time of the last Remington selloff. this is old stock stuff, I found it at a hole in the wall gun shop and paid $10 a can for it.

Here is Remingtons Page featuring the new can. I don't have a picture of the new stuff. I also don't have a can of it, one the can I purchase was gone I didn't get any more.

I'm not really sure what sort of input is being asked for but Rem Oil is a fine product but then so are alot of others.

For rust protection I always like to use Corrosion - X HD for marine use. Does a heck of a job in my opinion.
