I've fired over 2,000 rounds through my 1911-R1. I bought it new, and had to send it back for a new slide stop and slide stop plunger spring. The time I picked up the phone to the time I had my gun on my doorstep was less than a week, which I appreciated.
Of course, the mags that come with the gun should be recycled or used for scrap metal. Mine didn't feed well. Note - Wilson 8 round mags don't lock. I bought Wilson 7 round mags and I haven't had a feed failure since.
Since Remington sent it back to me, I've fired 1,500 perfect rounds. I feel fine relying on this gun to fire. It feels as reliable as my revolver.
The stock grips are now used as a chew-toy for my dog. Instead I fitted the gun with some Pachmayr rubber wrap-around grips.
I think for around $600, this gun is a good value. I like the look, too. Very military, once you lose those stock grips. Except there is a massive, tacky "Remington" scrawled in cursive on the slide. I wish the could have been true to the original, where the brand name is the same size as the serial...
