C'mon now.......how much ACTUAL trigger time do you get on a regular basis?Stand and deliver. Me? I don't get nearly enough. On average, I get to the range once every two months. I've gotten lazy.

What about you? Sound off.

* Please, Mr. Moderator, don't get angry. We need to know who shoots the most around here.

In the past I went at least once a month, if not more. This last year was so busy that if I made it once every other month I was content. Things have calmed down a bit more so I envision getting back to my old tricks.

500 rds per week on average.

100 rds self defense practice

20 rds long range rifle practice

75 rds sporting clays ( 3 rounds/5 stand )

300 rds IPSC practice

There is a difference between sending rounds downrange and training.

What kind of practice you get is more important then how much. Ideally we would all train daily. I'm lucky to get to the range every two weeks these days.

Jeff

Once a week, sometimes twice a week if I'm really having a good week. I shoot at least 100rounds shotgun ammo each time, used to be 100 12ga, now it's more like 75 28ga and 25 12ga at skeet.

I really wouldn't have a problem going everyday if I could!

I turn 50 this year. I've vowed to devote my 50s to...

my passions -- fitness, guns, and my religion. So far, I've fallen down on my marksmanship commitment. But, once this cold snap in south Texas ends, I'm hitting the range, weekly, just as I used to, back in the 'day'. Tomorrow is supposed to be half decent outside, so maybe it'll start then. Hope so.

With the shorter days and bad weather of winter, I don't get out as often. During summer I get out at least once a week and usually twice. Each outing always burns a brick of .22, so that's 500 rounds right there. I usually put a couple or three boxes through my carry gun at least twice a month. I do the same with my home defense guns. On each outing I take out a few other guns just to have fun with and put 100 or more rounds through them. It depends on my interests at the time. If I'm benchresting, the round count is low. If I'm just out plinking, or banging away at gongs, I'll go through a few hundred more rounds. I always take at least one muzzleloader too, and usually several.

Actual trigger time? I can accurately add my time up in summer, but with my sporadic shooting during winter, it's hard to say. I know I put in 5-10 hours a week during good weather and maybe 5 hours a month in winter.

I try to keep a minimum of 2 solid hours of practice per month. Sometimes I get a little more, sometimes a little less. In total I'd say I spend a total of 30-50 hours in serious practice. I probably spend an equal time in "fun gunning" where I'm not really trying to hone/maintain my skills.

roughly 500rd's a week these day's. Split out over 2 days a week at the range. Through the handgun.

Daily dry fire for an hour a day. Split amoung my pistol, rifle and shotgun. Depending on what I feel like picking up that day.

Lately it's been the shotgun, there is something zen about prefecting the reload of it. Even though it's the gun I'm least likely to pick up if I have to use a gun.

The rifle and shotgun are shot substantionally less often. Maybe 1000rd's every 2 months.

400rds a month through the 1911, CPL style practice. 500-600 a month through the pseudo-sniper small bore rifle.

Three times a week. I have access 24/7 via electronic key card to my club's indoor shooting range, which is 10 minutes from my house, has over a dozen 25-yard indoor lanes, is well-lit, and heated.

Tuesday before work (i.e. 6 a.m.) -- 50 rounds .22LR, Ruger Mk III bull barrel with red dot sight to practice sight alignment and trigger control. 25 rounds fired at 50 feet at a slow-fire bullseye target; 25 rounds fired in pairs at 15 feet or so at small targets (apple-sized) placed the same distance apart as the human heart and brain.

Thursday before work -- centerfire pistol practice. 25 rounds .45 ACP; 15 rounds .38 Special. All practice done at speed, drawing from concealment, using carry leather and wearing a covering garment (vest or jacket). Targets are my own homemade IDPA cardboard, wearing used t-shirts. I shoot from 5-30 feet at a shoebox-sized area from between the nipples of the chest, up through the neck, to the forehead. Any shot out of that shoebox doesn't count. I typically shoot 85-93%; rarely if ever do I miss the entire target.

Saturday or Sunday, whichever day is better for me: at the 100 yard outdoor range: 25 rounds .22LR from a scoped Ruger 77/22 at swinging steel plates (2" and 3") at 75 yards; 10 rounds precision shooting of match ammo at a 3" target at 100 yards from a scoped Remington LTR in .223; 25 rounds XM193 from my Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine in 5.56, shooting at various distances 10-75 yards with iron sights.

Sometimes I bring the Mossberg 590, too, and my own homemade target stand.

My two tips for improved shooting: join a good gun club near you that has an indoor range; buy a .22 LR pistol for cheap practice of sight alignment and trigger control. My centerfire shooting improved DRAMATICALLY after regular practice with the .22.

Man, I envy all of you guys. On average, I go to the range once a month, maybe twice per month a couple of times in the summer. I'll typically fire up 200 or so centerfire pistol rounds, 300 to 500 rimfire, 100 or so rifle (I only have a Mini-14), and 100 or 12 gauge.
Much of it is plinking, chasing 12 gauge hulls with the .22. I always try to do 20 or more draw strokes from concealment, stepping to one side or the other. And, I'll do some work with the Mossberg, keeping it loaded over a long course of fire. But honestly, most of my ammo is converted to noise.

Once a week.

100 rds of .45 ACP, 50 rds of 9mm, and 50 rds of .38 Special, .45 Colt, or 9mm Makarov, whichever one I'm in the mood for. I reload. Indoor range.

Used to do 500 rounds handgun per weekend - I'll get back to that point again once my immigration is complete :D

Up to 500 rounds per week. Average is about 200 per week. Lots of 22 LR through an Advantage Arms 22 conversion for Glock and a S&W Model 17 revolver.

weekly

My usual training regimen is:

good weather (spring, winter, fall) I try to get to the range a minimum of 1X weekly. I have changed my practice this year. I used to compete, and shoot 1,000 rounds a week with daily practice. I still had some habits from those years - each trip to the range involved loading tons of stuff, lengthy sessions, etc. Made each trip to the range much more of a process.

This year I decided that shorter, but regular sessions would fit my busy schedule (I practice law during the day, teach karate evenings, also teach constitutional and criminal law evenings during the academic year). So I pick one handgun caliber - .45, 9mm, .357/.38, and take 1 or 2 handguns in that caliber. One long gun per session. I take steel plates and paper targets. I shoot 100 rounds or so in drills with the handguns, number of rounds varies with rifle - mostly just basic target practice.

I can get a minimum of once a week, sometimes twice, with the shorter sessions.

In the winter. maybe 1-2 a month, and almost all long gun. I do some dry fire drills in my home dojo for hand gun.

Last week I logged (ISYN) over 1,000 rds per day on my "work" M9 Monday thru Friday. Tomorrow thru Friday will be more of the same to include M4. The week after that I will be much slower since Rob Leatham is coming out. We sorta get over and only shoot about 400 rds per 4-hr session... plus its cold out.:)
