Several years back I got a great deal on a Swedish M96. It is not a total mixmaster...bolt and bolt components, receiver, and buttplate match. Floorplate, barrel bands and bolt release do not. Bore is great.

My cheap camera can't quite capture the bore's shine.

I never really shot it much, but here is 5 rounds of the PPU 120gr "target ammo" @ 100 yards shot with iron sights right after I got it.

Last year I decided to convert one of my M96's into a Swedish sniper rifle for use in the CMP vintage sniper rifle matches. This one got the nod. I bought an Accumount repro scope mount and sent it to a trusted gunsmith. He is fairly busy and it took some months for him to complete the job. In the mean time I got a smoking deal on a real Swedish M41B sniper rifle, but that is a different story.

After he completed the job, he sent me several pictures of the rifle and I must admit, it came out looking good.

Very nice. The adjustability of that Micro-trac is a huge improvement over the original issue scopes. Windage has to be adjusted through the mount, which can never be accomplished during a match. 41B's are very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.

Very true. I have a genuine M41B and right now it is shooting so far to the left that I can't hit a target stand @ 100 yards with it. I tried to set up a second target on the shooting position to my left so I could at least see how the rifle groups, but the rounds hit between the two target stands.

I suppose the thing to do is figure out how the windage adjustment in the base works. I'm a little reluctant because I've heard it is easy to damage the base/adjustment screw if you do it wrong.

One of my vintage sniper team mates had a 41B, and I've shot one in several matches. We've adjusted the windage while sighting in, and I don't remember it being very complicated, other than it's a trial and error procedure. Much like adjusting windage on a Redfield base.

The elevation was no picnic either, but at least there are some markings on the turret. We never did figure out what they meant .

Yeah, I think it is no big deal if you know what you are doing. I've heard that if you break or strip the screws, however, it is a big deal.

Apparently there is a screw that has to be loosened before you start pushing the windage with a second screw. I should consult with someone who knows what they are doing.

A few months ago I took the rifle to the range for a quick sighting in.

After sighting it in, I shot this group @ 100 yards with my reloads (140 gr Nosler CC and IMR 4064)

My son shot this three shot group with some Lapua 108 gr factory ammo.

Last weekend I got to the range for some 200 and 300 yard shooting. It did pretty well with my reloads.

@200 yards, first two were 7:00 o'clock in the 10 ring, the next three were in the x ring. Group size was about 1.5", or about .75 MOA.

Things opened up considerably at 300 yards

@300 yards. The barrel had cooled down, not sure what order the shots were because I could not make them out with my spotting scope. Group size is about 3.5", or just over 1 MOA.

Very cool! if you’d like the M41B did have a special low sight hood (the m41s did not). As well as the m55 rear sight. I have an original and at first I thought the sight hood was squashed from an impact haha, but there is two different models of hood

In time I might be interested in having a conversion done like this, does the scope sit center of the rifle?, because I'm a left handed shooter can't have it to the left like Garand snipers are.

Get your Swede ready because in the future I will have a challenge going based on this vid

I made another trip to Sac Valley earlier this week for some 200 and 300 yard shooting. I changed my 6.5x55 load slightly and got a somewhat better result.

The shot down at 5 o'clock was a pulled shot. I knew it was off and where it it was going to hit before looking at the target. For reasons not entirely clear to me, the group shifted about 1/2 MOA to the left with the new load.

@ 300 yards, group size 2.4" (not including the pulled shot)

I adjusted the scope and later in the day, shot this group, also at 300 yards. By then the wind had picked up and there was a breeze from left-to-right. I think that accounts for some of the horizontal dispersion. The last two shots are the ones just off the reactive target.

@ 300 yards, group size 2.7"
