Revolver or Auto, one pick only.

My preference is revolvers but I own both.
As for this thread, I only own two revolvers that I would consider for this.
Those are a Ruger GP-100, 4", in .357 Magnum.
The other, also a Ruger, is the Single Six Convertible - .22LR & Magnum.
The Ruger SP-101 I also own, I wouldn't consider as it is only a .38 Special and I don't have any larger caliber (nor want).

Since "in production" was not a requirement, 3 revolvers could easily cover my needs/desires pretty easy with:

Dan Wesson 32 H&R 4" & 6"
Dan Wesson 357 pistol pack, full set
Dan Wesson 41 magnum, 2", 4" & 10"

I shoot a lot of 327s in a Ruger 4.2" SP-101 loaded to just over standard 32 H&R. The Dan Wesson would handle this power level with ease and having a choice of 4" or 6" would be nice. With my cast bullets and fast burning powders, this round would be very economical.

For typical 38 / 357 range shooting, I enjoy the 6" Dan Wesson model 15 as much as any other gun. But again, choices on barrel length are nice.

You can not get much more effective range with an iron sighted revolver than a 10" 41 magnum. Same gun with a short barrel become about as handy as you are going to get for a big bore.

I’m a revolver guy, but if I couldn’t have both and were stuck with just one, I would pick semiauto pistols.

Ruger Mark IV Competition 22LR
SilencerCo Maxim9 9mm Luger
STI 2011 460 Rowland

With this set, I’d have a small game and plinking pistol, a defensive pistol with integral hearing protection also great for plinking, and a hunting pistol.

But luckily, we don’t live under such silly restrictions where only one type must be chosen and further only 3 of that type.

I have a gun full of each. But I would go with the revolver as I think the are cooler. Probably an N frame S&W in.44 magnum as it will cover most situations. From plinking with slow specials to hot magnums.

I actually own the ones I posted. Also from West Ky.
Are we being realistic on what we would ACTUALLY have?

Because I could say mr73, Korth, Webley Fosberry.

I could also say Savage Navy, Patterson, Remington.

Or I could go with what I actually have as the last 3 I would part with. 30-1, single six 9” convertible, 10-6.

Maybe I should say Phoenix hp22a, RIA 10mm GI 1911, Taurus pt99af.

Let’s just try this one… Rossi Cyclops 988, Freedom Arms 35 Remington 10”, 9” single six convertible.

Yup, only considering what I have and those where I have considerable experience.

I’m an auto guy…. Sooo…

1) one of my 4” Kimber .45’s
2) one of my Kahr CW9’s
3) a 60’s Belgian HiPower…

3a) although i would trade that HiPower for one of those Bright Blue Colt 1911 repos.

Ruger super Blackhawk 44 mag, 10.5” bbl (old model).
Ruger XP100 357 mag. 6”bbl
Ruger single six 22 mag 6” bbl

Guess I’m stuck on Rutgers. Evert one I have ever owned is/was a tack driver. And for the big guys I load light for practice. The 44 easily handles everything out to 100 yards with the Leupold 2x LER. with a 300 grain Sierra SP.

For me muscle memory counts so I stay in the same family.
GP100 357 5 inch for the woods
SP101 38 3 inch for carry
GP 100 22 5 inch for plinking/practice

taurus 85 38sp. my solo firearm for 25 years, due to my locations. for home protection and ccw.

ruger single six 22wmr/lr. my first new in box handgun. 22lr for plinking and 22wmr for protection.

ruger lcr 22lr. my most expensive firearm. for a softer ccw.

Now I have to try the GP100 22LR. Probably be my next purchase if it’s what I want for plinking.

Tough one to narrow down honestly, I'll take a quick stab at it.
Revolvers:
S&W 629 5"
S&W 686 3"
Ruger Single Ten

Autos:
G22
G27
Ruger MKIV Target

You still have some narrowing down to do, as the question was revolvers OR automatics. ;-)

REVOLVERS FOR ME...
S&W® M&P® BODYGUARD® w/CT® Laser #BG38 in 38 Special+P (CCW)
Ruger® Blackhawk® 6½" Barrel 41 Rem Mag (Hunting and Silhouette)
Taurus® TRACKER™ Mdl 992 22LR/22Mag (Hunting and Target)

If I had to pick one it would be semi auto. Just for ccw. I carry iwb with no cover garment 90% of the time so a flat sided gun rules all.

If I had to only have one handgun it would likely be a Glock 20 maybe even a 29 since it would need to fill all roles. Hunting, defense, ccw etc etc. ( I own a 29 but don't care for them. Too big for ccw. No reason to choose it over a 20 for hunting or even carry etc etc) but it may well be the most versatile gun. Plenty of power. Small-ish. Load with 40s for a smooth shooter or heavy rounds and it will handle that for years too.

If I get 3

Id pick a good 22. Maybe one of my Beretta target model or hammerli/sig. But a buckmark, woodsman or mk2/3 22/45, 922 or anything else in that arena would be ok.

Then a good 10mm Glock. 20 or maybe the 40 but like the shorter 20 for duty carry. Covers big game and home defense.

Then any of the popular but not tiny carry guns. I carry a Glock 27 but any 9mm/40 smallish double stacks. M&P, 365, 320, etc etc.

If I had to choose to go with a revolver trio I would be ok too.

a k frame 22 or maybe ruger 22. Single six or GP. No matter..its just for small game/varmint

A 4 inch N frame, Maybe 329 or a shorter barrel redhawk for defense and most hunting

And a 460 for hunting or distance. (Really just because the other two do most anything else)

Only 1 revolver? Id say a 686 plus. 3 inch maybe. Would cover anything. Heavy for ccw. Short for game... but perfectly adequate
