I doubt that anyone who's fired both would pick the Ruger. The P99 is the finest 9mm I've ever shot. Not that the Ruger is bad, but there's just no comparison.

I've owned about every make of pistol out there, and the P99 is as good as it gets. The mag release, just like the HK, is fabulous. Once you get used to it, it makes the standard push button release seem archaic.

Hmmm... So basically anyone who chooses differently than you do is doing so out of ignorance or inexperience. That's not a particularly constructive point of view.

Got a friend who's a firearm dealer, gunsmith, and owner/operator of a rental range. His home defense firearm is a Ruger P95. I'll let him know he's chosen poorly and he needs more experience with firearms...

I don't remember saying the P95 was bad in any way. But that doesn't mean it's a P99, I could care less who shoots or owns one. To even compare them is almost ludicrous. They're not in the same league.

A Ford Pinto will get you where you want to go. That doesn't make it a Ferrari.

I shouldn't get sarcastic--that's not constructive either...it just hit me wrong that someone would assume that given the same input everyone else would make exactly the same choices he did.

I'd take either one--I don't mean to leave the impression that the P99 is a problem gun--but if I had to buy one with my own money for general purpose use I'd take the Ruger for the reasons I mentioned earlier on the thread.

On the other hand, if I were choosing between the two for making little slow-fire groups, I'd take the P99. I've never been able to get what I would call exemplary accuracy out of a P95.
