Ruger Security Six .357 Holster Recommendations

150.... series. 4 inch. Looking for something to open carry comfortably while backpacking or hunting.

Also happy to hear any of your speed loader holster recommendations.

Most, but probably not all, K-frame sized holsters will work with the sixes. It depends how precise the fit is. Galco's K-frame holsters will work for example.

For hiking the hands-down most comfortable carry for my Sixes is the Alaska Sportsman chest holster. The revolver rides very comfortably all day. You can hook it to your pack's own straps as well.

I have yet to find a speed loader holster I like, so I just use pockets or the pouch on the maxpedition. They tend to be too bulky.

I have a 6" GP100 I use similarly. I ordered a custom holster from http://www.simplyrugged.com/

Nothing else I tried kept the large frame revolver as close to my hip. I hated romping throw the woods with my holster flopping around smacking trees and stuff.

If you plan on a full size overnight pack being worn, Cosmoline's suggestion about a chest rig might be a consideration.

I also agree speed loader pouches I've tried all suck.

I am a huge fan of the safepacker. It is a great holster that carry while hiking, hunting or canoeing. I have the Government Model. I can carry everything from my SIG P220 to my 2 3/4" Security six in it comfortably. When I carry my revolvers in the safepacker I stack three speed loaders on top of one another inside the pack. I, too, use a S&W K frame holster from Bianchi for my Ruger Security Six, and it fits like a glove. Any of their models, particularly the 5BH or 5BHL (lined) would be great for field use.

Galco Fletch high ride holster is good but it does sit pretty high on your hip.

Here's a company that caught my eye just yesterday, they've got some good looking products. I use a very similar thumb break for my Redhawk by Bianchi. This ones a lot cheaper than my Bianchi was 25 years ago.

For open woods carry I would recommend the Flapjack on a Sourdough Pancake. If you want, add the Chesty Puller harness.

Galco makes good holsters with the ability to wear them strong side or cross draw that makes them adaptable to how you carry your equipment. heir DAO holster would be a good one. Here is a new style ambi holster they make for revolvers that looks nice.

A thumb break crossdraw can work when carrying a daypack. Bianchi and El Paso Saddlery make examples that work for me.

I use a Triple K Flap Holster. Sandwiched between a fanny pack and water bottles, it doesn't scream GUN! when you meet someone on the trail.

Try "shop Ruger.com" I bought a decent Triple K leather holster with snap for a GP 100 4in for about 30+ dollars.

I use a Triple K Flap Holster.

Those are really nice. They're seen as old fashioned, but they work good and don't impede access. They also keep the water from soaking your firearm on the trail.

I found the suede lined Triple K Woodsman model for a bit over $50. It has two mounting options for strong side or cross draw. Too bad they don't offer any options on this model, but the price is right.

They fit the Security Sixes, S&W M10, M15 and M18 perfectly (NOT the M19/66, though). They have the wire hangers for a GI web pistol belt, but I just wear mine on a good leather belt. Very secure, good protection from the elements, and very comfortable. I've worn this rig horseback, on the ATV, in airplanes, and in canoes.

I carry open with a Bianchi because it is extremely comfortable and secure. It will secure a heavy wheel gun without batting against your leg or rubbing you raw.

That galco looks nice. I'm having a problem finding a holster for my old 7 1/2 " bbl Ruger 3 screw too. Will have to check out these sites.

Got my Triple K Woodsman for my Ruger Security Six this week. It fits great, nice and secure. It has an open muzzle, so it also fits my 6" Taurus 66 (6-shot) nicely. It also fits my 2" Taurus 617 (7-shot).
