Ruger To The Rescue (Pics Added)

If you've followed this subforum for several years, you know that I had an accident with an SP101.

It endured stresses beyond it's design.
(OK, heck, I blew it up.)

Well early last month (January) I was cleaning out my gun safe & decided to email Ruger & see if they wanted it for research.

Not only did they say "yes", they even emailed me a prepaid label.

After roughly 2 weeks, I got an email from Ruger CS.
Below is the exact text

Good morning-
We are sending this email in regards to the SP-101 serial number 574-38xxx that was sent into us for service. Our technicians found this firearm needs to be replaced. We would like to offer you a new revolver of the same model at no charge. Ways to get in contact with us are listed within this email. Thank you and have a nice day.

You could have blown me away with a feather!!!!!!

I explained that it was my fault, but that didn't matter to Ruger.

Late this afternoon my local FFL called to say it was in.
After the paperwork & a background check, (which I passed  ) :D
I am once again a proud owner of an SP101!

It's too dark to take photos.
I'll have to do it tomorrow.

I already changed the grips.
I put new rubber & inserts on it.
(Altamont Snakeskin rubber & Walnut snakeskin inserts)

I'm just giddy - I still can't believe Ruger did this.

Even the cat wanted to be in pictures - (that's her paw trying to steal the reload) :D

That is great news! Makes me proud to be the owner of way too many Ruger firearms. :what: My first "real" rifle was a Ruger 77 RS .270 Win that I bought for moose hunting through the Navy Exchange in Argentia Newfoundland back in 1979. I ended up taking 3 Bull Moose with that gun and still have it in my safe. I don't shoot it much, but it will be one of the last to go. So good to hear good news like this about an American gun company.

nice! Congrats on getting your SP101 back!

Gotta love a company that goes the extra mile!

That is outstanding customer service. If you don't mind what happened to the gun? You do not have to dig up the whole thing if you do not care to.

You say you blew it up? Bad reload?

More power Scotty! Now Scotty!;)

GO RUGER GO!
This is why no matter how many Colts I acquire, I'm still long on RGR. :D Their service is second to none, Mike Fifer is continually introducing fresh products, and here you have a real life example of LEGENDARY Ruger quality service. ;)

My 1991 SBH 10.5" .44mag recently started shooting all over the place. I addressed all of the usual suspects then gave up and sent it to Ruger. They informed me the frame was cracked where the barrel attached and not visible to the naked eye, thus the barrel was moving around.

They sent me a new one to my local FFL free of charge. As my screen name eludes, I like Ruger. I have been a Ruger owner since I bought my first one, that 1991 10.5" SBH. I guess I own 30 or more now, still happy.

Great news! I am a believer too. Back around 1979 or so my buddy was looking for a 44 mag Blackhawk, we were at a gun show in Reno . I found one that was blown up, the top strap was gone. The guy was asking $20 for this "paperweight". I bought it and called Ruger, I got a new one out of it, free just like Hondo. I told them exactly what happened and they replaced it. I called my buddy when it came in and said I found him one for $20. He thought I was crazy, but he still has it! Ruger and RCBS are the absolute best CS on the planet!

Never met a Ruger I didn't like......a lot! alas, I only own 5 these days, a 10-22 I bought new for $49.95 (yeah a long time ago), a .22-45 Mk III Hunter stainless pistol, an AR-556, an SR 40. They make shooting fun.

I miss my Blackhawk .45 convertible, and stainless mini 14........ok, I miss my 70 series Colt Gold Cup just as much.:D OOPs, 6 not 5. I forgot my favorite 357 revolver.....Security 6....won't be trading that...ever.

Thank goodness I've never blown one up............................yet.

Thank you for sharing.

What a tough gun! and glad all worked out well for you (personal) and great that Ruger is replacing it.

We are only human and stuff happens.:)

Great! Love hearing stories like this with a happy ending! :D

I liked my P95 which was like a tank and it kept shooting reliably without complaints. It happily became a retirement present to a coworker.

Ruger 10/22 was my first firearm and have many years of happy memories and creating more memories with my new stainless takedown 10/22!

While I am keeping my eyes open for S&W 686, I would not hesitate to pick up a SP101.

Kudos to Ruger!

Rugers CS goes above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction of their customers. I have experienced that first hand. Every gun show i attend i buy something with Rugers trademark on it: wheather it be a cap, or, a t shirt, or a sticker and I own a couple of Ruger firearms.
Congrats on getting a new sp101 enjoy it

I don't own any Ruger products (just haven't gotten around to it), but stories like this make me want to.

Guess I'm not as big a fan of Ruger as some of you... I only own twelve of them. The one that I had to send back to Ruger, they fixed in a jiffy, and found and corrected an issue that I hadn't complained about. That's why I'll buy more Rugers. Good guns, and they care about their customers. Glad to hear I'm not alone in my experiences.

Ruger CS

I bought a Ruger 77MK11 in .308 Win out of a collection that was as 20 years old but was in as new condition.I wouldn't group under 3 inches no matter what ammo I shot in it.I called Ruger and after a conversation the guy asked for the serial number of the rifle. After a few seconds he said they'd take the rifle back for inspection.Sent me a shipping label. In about 3 weeks they sent the rifle back with a new barrel.NO CHARGE!!!!!!!!. Now if I do my job the rifle will groupe 1 1/2 inches or better all day long.Ruger C S is the best . hdbiker

Big Ruger guy !!

I'm a Ruger guy through and through.
This is nice to hear !!!!!
There are still decent companies out there. Kudos to them.
Good luck with the new piece!
