I found 1000 Sellier and Bellot pistol primers for $24.99at cabelas and was wondering if they are any good?

the price has me a little concerned they may not be good compared to others that cost more.

will be using for 9mm luger.

Yes, thay are good. S&B Primers at Cabela's can frequently be found on sale for around the $20 point and are typically less expensive across the board. They work just fine.

S&B Primers are excellent and $25 a thousand, is a dam good price! I've used them many times. I also use Armscor Primers, which I can often get locally for $19 a thousand, which is a steel.

I have never had a primer problem, with either of them, or any other primers I have ever used either!

I've shot over 40,000 of the S&B primers and have yet to have a problem with them. They're excellent primers, and as noted by Reloadron, Cabela's often has them on sale for $19.99 per thousand.

Hope this helps.

Fred

I like them as well. I have recently found them at Cabellas for as low as $16 per 1000.

I have heard all kinds of criticism about them being hard to seat or being oversized and destroying primer pockets. All I know is that I have used thousands of them in the last few months without any issues.

Ive shot 800 so far of the 5,000 i bought. All went bang. I prime on a load master and they feed and seat well for me too. To be continued....but good so far!

I did see a post somewhere that the S&B's chrono'd slower than some other name brand. I could care less and have a stash of those suckers.

In my experience they are a lot like Wolf:

-large/tight in the pocket
-Hard/you want a factory or close to factory strike force to set them off

If you are fine with both of those, they were 100% for me as well.

S&B pistol primers are GOOD! I've had excellent performance, and the primers also work just fine with VibraPrime, too, unlike my last box of WSP.

I have shot many thousand S&B primers over the past few years. Good stuff. No failures. No funny business. You can get them for about $20/k often, lately. Jump on it and stock up. You can never have too many primers. Just ain't possible.

Don't buy a lot of them at 24.99, they dropped to 17.99 last summer on sale. Buy what you need, and wait for the sale to come around again. Yes , they are good primers.

A Cabelas just opened minutes from my house and I did stop by and get a couple thousand when they were on sale for 19.99. Ive used a couple trays of them and they all go bang. A little extra force is needed when seating primers on my lct, but I typically prime off press with a rcbs hand primer and they seat easily.

I personally would not stock up on them at the non sale price of $25/k when I can get winchesters for $26 and cci for $27 at the gun show. Im sitting very fat and happy when it comes to primers so I'll likely hold out until they go on super sale for $16.99 or $17.99. That is just too hard to resist.

The edges are a little more square than CCI or Winchester but they go bang just fine.
Shot 10000+ of them with no issues. They do look a little funny until you get used to the "square edges"

For me the SPs seem just a bit milder than CCIs, say maybe 10fps in a midrange 1050ish fps 9mm load,
been my primer of choice for SP for a while now.

No big deal but if you are loading to a PF and are close you might what to chrono to be safe.

LPs seemed to work fine as well.
I haven't used them in rifle.
At $20/K on sale I think they are a great deal with Cabelas lower hazmat fee. I have a Cableas club card and there is usually some kind of deal on shipping even if you still have to pay the hazmat.

Cabelas opens 10min away by me in august so ill probably buy 1k for now. trying to get this rifle reloading down first then start on handgun. still need a 9mm FCD and Lee auto drum and I will ready to roll for handgun.

You don't need a Lee Factory Crimp Die to load 9x19, or for that matter any other handgun round. I've loaded that caliber from the 1970's to the present without one and they load just fine. I do seat and crimp separately, though.

Hope this helps.

Chris in Va says:
No no no. Terrible primers. Don't buy them!

Now that is what I like, a post that says don't do something and is well supported with documentation as to why not to do something. Let's see, we have a dozen or more people who say that S&B primers are fine and work well and a single post that says... :)

I also agree with ReloaderFred as to a need for a FCD (Factory Crimp Die) on 9mm. All you need is a good set of carbide dies. For example RCBS Carbide 3-Die Set with Taper Crimp 9mm Luger will serve you just fine. When you have time you may want to give this a read, Handgun Cartridge Crimping as it does a good job of explaining crimps.
