I have previous experience with a LAR Grizzly which i had a Leupold 6.5x20 scope on. I am now waiting to pick up my Barrett M82A1 and need to decide which glass to put on it. Price is not really an issue although I would like to keep it under 1000 but that is not set in stone if something really commands more money. Any suggestions for what to put on this gun? Thanks

In use, I found the Super Sniper from SWFA to do everything needed from a ten power long range tactical precision scope. At just under 300 dollars, it is most likely the best buy available in a high quality precision scope. It is the equal of scopes selling for three times the cost, and is available only from SWFA

Just about all serious 50 shooters I know use a Nightforce scope. The 5.5-22 is popular because it has 100 minutes of elevation. They are built like tanks, and service is good if you ever need it.

Fixed or variable?

For fixed I'd go with either a US Optics ST-10 or a Leupold Mark 4 10x40 mildot.

For variable, the Nightforce Zak suggested (above $1000), US Optics SN3 (way above $1000), or Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 6.5-20x50 (below $1000). CDNN has the Leupold 6.5-20 on sale right now for $799.

The new Xotic USS (variable) coming soon from SWFA has alot of promise as well and a great pricepoint. The pre-production model has recieved some very favorable reviews from some folks on Snipershide.com.

What about the Barrettt factory scope? No need to go through several scopes trying to find one that can take it. :D

Leupold Mark IV in 16x. For a 50, you might as well use higher magnification since you'll be reaching out further.

Seconded.

PS: I just got one too (M82A1 cal version) Will be a while before I can afford a decent scope, but they're not about to ban SCOPES here just yet!
