scope length ?

I bought the standard universal burris two piece mount and signature rings for my savage 14. I installed the mounts and rings and when I tried to put in the Nikon prostaff scope it was too small. There was not enough room between the rings to put the scope. I am planning on getting a new mount and rings but how do I know if the scope will fit the new setup? Thanks in advance.

Savage rifles have actions much longer than most other rifles and it makes mounting scopes more challenging. Extension rings should make all but the shortest scopes work.

I turned around the rear mount and this gave me the exact amount of room needed to mount the scope. This was best because they would not take back the rings and mount.
