Just wondering if I will be under scoped by putting a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on a Remington 700 Sendero .308.
I plan to buy a better scope later (next year), but short on money. Looking to target shoot, varmint hunt and deer hunt with it. Just looking for some opinions.

Its a good scope for the money. It is a step or two above the China made options out there. There are many nicer scopes to pick from and for target shooting it may make it a little harder to compete but for deer and varmints it should do just fine. I wouldn't want to be shooting 1000 yard shoots with it but it should work well enough until you can afford better.

I have the scope and can't afford another right now. When I say target shooting I mean plinking for my own enjoyment, no competition shooting.
Thanks

I'd hate to see you have to put a Prostaff on that Sendero. It deserves a little better at least. I understand being short on funds too. I'd recommend you borrow a loaner from someone if you can before spending money twice for some decent glass. You would do better with a Buckmaster or other brand offerings in that price range. I have a Monarch on mine and feel I went a little cheap as is.

For the money, I think they are pretty hard to beat. It sounds like you should be good to go for out to 500yds if you have good rings.

It wouldn't be my ideal final scope but it should hold up just fine to the .308, it should be fairly clear and bright, and it should have fairly accurate adjustments. I would trust it for anything short of formal competition.
