I've got a similar pair of rifles, my FR-8 scout rifle in 7.62 X 51mm and a CZ-527 in 7.62 X 39mm. Given that my FR-8 is quite a bit heavier than my CZ, I'm left wondering if the CZ-527 (in 7.62 X 39mm--Cooper wasn't a fan of the poodle shooting calibers and neither am I) might not be closer to Cooper's original idea of a general purpose rifle. My FR-8 is 8 lbs, my CZ is considerably lighter (6.75 lbs, with scope and sling). The CZ is short enough, light enough, and handy enough. The 7.62 X 39mm chambering is not as powerful as the .308, but it's not bad either. I just got my FR-8 together and haven't had the chance to try them out side by side yet. What are your thoughts about the Ruger GSR vs. the CZ-527 as a general purpose rifle?
