SD9 vs. Taurus G3C??

It wasn't the length of pull or where it broke. I just didn't like the feel of it. It never felt consistent. I started out with a Ruger P-series & put my time in on DA/SA. I also used to carry a Kel-Tec P-11 that had a pretty bad double action only trigger. It shot pretty well once I got used to it. I don't mind a trigger pull that is long or a bit on the heavy side but I do like for it to be clean or at least consistent. It was not consistent.
Taurus PT111 G2 Trigger!! What's your problem!!!

It's a 6 minute video. You can fast forward to around the 3:35 mark. I owned two G2s purchased at different times from different retailers for different parts of the country. One was the blued version and the other stainless. I can not speak on your specific example, but my experience mirrors the experience of the the reviewer in the video, and what I seen in dozens of other videos. The springs and spring weights should be consistent, and I am not sure how or why the depressing the same exact springs and trigger would fluctuate from one pull to the other. Maybe you got a lemon or it simply needed a good cleaning?

Everyone complains about the trigger because it's simply different than the typical Glock style trigger some are accustomed to. It also doesn’t have a very short and light pull and break simular to a competition like trigger, so in the minds of many, different equals "terrible." It should be easier for a newbie or novice to learn vs a DAO trigger. IMHO, there's nothing wrong with the trigger. It has a long initial pull no different than a DA/SA pistol except the long pull is much lighter, and then it has a short reset thereafter.

It's not a target or competition pistol. You're not going to be able to put all the rounds through one hole while shooting at paper at the range which is what some expect. It is a defensive weapon that's more than capable of getting on target while rapid firing at self defense distances.

I've owned versions of both. They both had yuck triggers and went bang every time. Whichever fits your hand best.

SD9ve has been fine for me. Better with an Apex trigger mod. I would consider reaching deeper into your pocket for an m&p perhaps.

“The Taurus. I have 2 G3C's.”

The one thing I’m concerned about is if there’s a lot of muzzle flip. I’ve never owned a compact semi auto. Is it much more with the 3.2” barrel than a 4”?
Honest Outlaw’s review said it wasn’t too snappy, like it was fun to shoot. I’m just starting to see how small of a gun it is watching YouTube reviews.

I have a G2c that I love, bought it brand new not long ago at a super price which is why I have that instead of the G3c. No the trigger is not great but I'm not participating in competitions besides there are trigger mods for the G series that do make the trigger better.

Of those two, I'd go with the S&W and do the trigger mod to overcome its one real weakness. If you read up a bit, you'll find that S&W has a great reputation for after-sale support, while Taurus has a reputation of trying to avoid providing support and taking forever when they finally do get around to it. You'd also be supporting a US-based company with S&W. (as opposed to Taurus, who are based in Brazil)

A bit of background: S&W came out with the Sigma when it became clear that Glock was taking the whole police market with their striker-fired pistol. (and with many fewer parts that competitors) They infringed some Glock patents and had to pay S&W a load of money. It had a really heavy trigger. I suppose it's a bit lighter on this later model that you're looking at.

In terms of ergonomics, it was a better pistol than a Glock, but it was hard to shoot it as well because of the garbage trigger. Glock is no great shakes in this regard either; they pull through nice & light, then stack up and get spongy right before the break. It's easy to get good "combat accuracy" out of them, but when you try to shoot groups, it's hard to do better. Glock has wonderful aftermarket support. (including trigger improvements!)

A police trade-in Glock 17 would be a great gun, if they're still around. Work on the trigger if you want. The gun is an absolute icon, and is one of the original hi-cap pistols. It broke all the reliability records of every gun before it, back in the day. I think all the police trade-ins these days are 22s, in 40 S&W, though.

I like the S&W M&P better. If possible, stretch and go for one of those. They're even more comfortable and have the interchangeable backstraps to tailor the fit to your hand. Don't get the first version, get the 2.0, as they have much better triggers. They also look great and have quite an aggressive grip, to the point that it will chafe you if you carry it against your skin. But you can sand it down a bit in those areas.

Ok. I am leaning over to the S&W side of the street now, but initially for a silly reason. It’s technically a tool I know, but the tenifer finish on the Taurus’s wear pretty fast. One of the reviewers said it wore in the short time he had it. I guess I’m picky but I want a better finish.

This is the trigger I put into my S&W SD9VE:

It was $50 when I bought it. It's now $65. You don't need it right away but down the line you should add it. It will impress you once you've gotten used to shooting the SD9VE.

I do keep wanting to try a post lawsuit Taurus 9mm which is the G2 or G3. Rumor has it they got better. I still read problems of magazines dropping out after a few 100rds though. I've never been a Taurus fan but they are low priced.

FYI - the lawsuit that Taurus lost was over their pistols firing without pulling the trigger. There was a video floating around of a guy getting his polymer Taurus 9mm to fire just by shaking it.

Also the selling point on a Taurus used to be it's lifetime of the gun warranty. Taurus did away with that after the lawsuit.

The other reason I haven't bought a Taurus G2 or G3 - lack of ambi safeties. I'm left handed and would rather have ambi-safeties or no thumb safeties.

As I told Smaug, I discovered the tenifer finish on their firearms wears rather quickly. It kinda ruined it for me. They are reliable as hell but it makes a cheap firearm look...well...cheap.

The only difference is many have a bias against Taurus because of lemons they released decades ago.

They are still making a lemon, now & then.

Of the two, G3C i bought, 1 failed when the magazine release fell out of the gun, along with the magazine. Gun had been fired with about 100 rounds. Then the first shot of the day, it failed.

A search shows its a problem that has happened to many. Poor design. The newer model, Gx4 spring has been changed.

I own a G2C & a G3X & a SD9VE

All have ran 100%
Biggest gripe you will hear about the SD9VE is the trigger .. to me .. it works .. The SD9VE runs like a Singer Sewing Machine… honestly I have ran all weights thru it .. reloads … it doesn’t matter
Its my nightstand gun .. Loaded with 147gr Subsonic Sliver tips

Bought the SD9 today. EXTREMELY happy with it. Was between that and a G3 Tactical (a worthy option) The G3’s grip was not ergonomic for me, my very first pistol of any kind was rushed with XDS Mod 2, which had this annoying bump on the grip simulating a finger groove. Irritating as all get out for my hand size. So I didn’t want to go through the same bahlonee with the G3.
The SD9, however, is a Cadillac all around. Love it.

Yeah, pick the one that feels good in your hand.

I had the 40 caliber version of the S&W. The mags were good quality. It was completely reliable. The trigger was not great, but definitely good enough for SD accuracy.

If you want to work on your pinpoint accuracy later, start saving for a nice 22lr pistol. The Buck Marks and Ruger Mark whatever are amazingly accurate and not very expensive used.

You definitely by far made the better choice. There's no worst company to deal with than Taurus. Enjoy your new gun!
