Sex offenders can own guns?

Nope.

Most sex offenders commit state or local misdemeanors involving anything from exposing one's self in public to some form of unlawful sexual contact (this can mean a lot of things). Very, very few sex offenders commit the sort of crimes most associated with them by the public, such as child molestation or violent rape. Not that those things don't happen -- they do. But one reason I dislike those sex offender registries is they lump all offenders together. Granted, none of them are likely to be allowed anywhere near any child of mine, but few are felons or firearm-prohibited persons. Most simply suffer from very strange habits and tastes, and poor impulse control. They are "dangerous," but only a small portion are DEADLY dangerous.

if you take a piss behind a 7-11 at 3 am after the employees refuse you use of the bathroom. your a sex offender.

compliment some one on their belt the wrong way... sex offender. (actually happened to some one i know)

sex offender laws are a sham, and another tool to criminalize the people.

I realize that, but this ladies a registered sex offender yet she was able to buy a gun according to this.

"Sex offender" doesn't mean anything. FELONS aren't allowed to purchase firearms, not sex offenders. I don't care if a former prostitute carries a gun, I do care if a former rapist does. Rape=felony and prostitution=misdemeanor (usually).

EDIT:: I watched the video. The girl you are referencing was convicted of a misdemeanor. Many states have a misdemeanor and a felony charge for statutory rape, depending on the age difference... meaning 22 and 15 would be a misdemeanor, while 35 and 12 would be a felony. Every state is different.

As far as the registry goes, it doesn't matter if it is a misdemeanor or a felony.

Sex offender does not always mean felon.

I've seen some pretty stupid cases against people that resulted in the individual being classified as a sex offender.

You realize what? Hoppy states that public urination could lead to being a registered sex offender. Duke stated that many sex offenders committed a misdemeanor. Do you feel that public urination should lead someone to forfeit their gun rights? Or any other misdemeanors?

PILMAN,

You're falling for an anti tactic that is after us all. Domestic violence-accusation/not conviction-no guns. Misdemeanor sex offender-they can buy guns? Oh, no! Pass a law.
And those nasty people who have DUI's! Surely they shouldn't have guns! They're going to get drunk and do drive by shootings!

You don't have to ban guns if you can drastically curtail the number of people who can legally own guns.

Surely those dangerous people who have received traffic tickets shouldn't be allowed to possess firearms.

Doesn't sound right.

Sex offenses require some form of sexual gratification for the actor, the scenarios you mentioned don't qualify as sex offenses.

There's an element of contact, stimulation, or some form of impairing the morals of children in a sexual manner.

Yes, if you grab someone's butt, you could have a problem. Otherwise, it sounds like your "friends" aren't putting out the whole truth.

Around here, taking a leak behind a dumpster is chargeable as the sex offense of indecent exposure. That's a tax on drunken tourists and college students, who do not understand that locals pee in the woods.

"Visual sexual aggression" probably could be interpreted to include most popular musical performances and performance art these days, if performed in person.

That would make sense, but not necessarily the case. People who are caught 'streaking' late at night have been arrested for indecent exposure have the possiblity of having to register as sex offenders if found guilty.

Yes, another tool to criminalize more people for silly pranks.

In OH that's referred to as "public indecency". Although a couple of months ago some guy was running around doing something with women's underwear and got caught 3 different times that wasn't covered under any local or state law and he walked. Made a lot of schools and suburbs really mad.

If what she did was that bad, she would be a felon and barred from owning a gun. What she did fell within the realm of misdemeanor, so it probably wasn't a really bad thing. She probably isn't some derranged child rapist, considering that it wasn't a felony. If you do something that actually hurts someone, the law is quick to turn it into a felony. I bet that if you found out what she was actually charged with, you'd probably be more upset that she had to register as a sex offender than that she can own a gun.

Various circuit courts have determined that nudity is legal. You can stand in Central Park topless.

If it was per se illegal, there would be no nude beaches.

Will you get arrested for some kind of "breach of peace"? Probably, but the case will not be a sex offense, you will be in trouble for alarming the public or recklessly creating the risk thereof.

Being naked (in and of itself) is not a sex offense in the NE. Per LE training.

Ok, if you're in an area that's different I suggest you keep a "view deflector" in hand when you piss behind 7-11. How about a length of PVC pipe?:)

Maine had to rewrite its nudity laws a few years ago when two women successfully argued in court that their genitals weren't exposed -- the criterion under the old statute -- because female genitalia are internal. For a few weeks Maine women could streak to their heart's content.

Personal thought is why are these people even allowed in society let alone able to pocess a gun???

Are you saying that people convicted of very minor infractions should be killed or locked away for life if that minor infraction puts them on a sex offender list?

The original question has been asked and answered. If you wish to discuss the ins-and-outs of nudity or the swift execution of streakers, take it elsewhere.
