Put together my very first batch of 41 magnum loads and finally got a chance to shoot them.

Missouri Bullets 215 LSWC's over 15.5grs of 2400. Using a S&W Model 57 with a 6" barrel. I don't have my chronograph yet but a good guess on this load is somewhere around 1050-1200fps.

Looks like I picked a good one right out of the gate. Got zeroed in at 25 yards off the bench and then took it out to 50. It was dead on at fifty so we eyeballed a big rock at approximately 75 yards. Right on target. So my buddy says, "lets go try hitting the gong on the rifle range at 100 yards".

Walk over to the rifle range, load a few rounds in and take aim at the dinner sized plate hanging out at the 100 yard line. Standing unsupported I take aim......."gong" goes the plate as it swings around. I couldn't believe I had hit it on my first try! I had aimed right at it.....maybe just a hair below dead center. (My 25 yard zero was a 6:00 hold). At that range my front sight nearly filled the target. Ended up hitting it three out of six with the others just missing. All would have been kill zone on a deer.

For the heck of it I took a shot at another computer mouse sized rock at about 10-15 yards just to see where it would hit at that range. 6:00 hold took a piece right off the top of the rock.

Amazing "kill zone" range with this load.......15-100 yards with 6:00 to dead center aim.

I am SOLD on 41 Magnum!

Ain't it FUN...!!!!

One of the reasons I'm SOLD on both the .41 and the .44 Rem Mag cartridge in 6" and 7.5" barrel lengths. It amazes my buddies when I roll oil bottles at 100 yards with one..

BE CAREFUL FRED!!!

I had a 4" 57 and the exact same thing happened to me! The first load I put together was very accurate and I hit whatever I was aiming at every time. In fact, it got to be boring. So boring that I eventually sold the gun :banghead:.

So, after every cylinder dump, point yourself towards Springfield MA and say 3 times "I'll never sell this gun".

I have yet to put together a load that doesn't shoot accurately in my .41's.

Well, you guys are amazing shots, hitting oil bottles and 8" plates unsupported at 100 yds. Me, I'm lucky to keep them on a 12" wide piece of paper at 50 yards.

Fred,

Glad to hear you enjoying yourself and even better the 41.

I hunt with mine nearly year round, for feral hogs it simply works. While most folks like the heavy cast bullets, I like to use the Rem bulk 200gr SJHP loaded at about 1300fps from my Redhawk. IT just works for me and my friend as well from his S&W. Thing you have to learn is not to hold off of hair or you'll shoot over it. LOL

We were shooting across a lake on his property, maybe a hundred yards or so, at some turtles lined up on a log against the opposite bank one day. After the second shot he said where you holding, I said just over the tip of the first turtle. Well that was just where they were hitting the bank as well.

Good luck with yours and I hope it serves you as well as mine has over the years.

That's good shooting. Glad you really like your M57 and 41 mag reload combination. I love mine. All I can say is I shoot it better than 44's which is very unscientific.

Try beer cans (oops... soda cans) at 200 yds and see how you do. You might be very surprised.
