Should off duty cops be subject to the same gun laws as the rest of us?

Off duty officers are still police officers and have the duty to enforce the laws of their jurisdictions and do run into people they have arrested. A private citizen has no such obligation and as a rule have not had to have anyone arrested.

As far as retired officers carrying they may not be as good with their weapons as some of the citizens, but they have been through a lot more to get the right to carry. In my state no psychological exam or polygraph is required for a citizen to carry concealed. Both of these are required by most police agencies in the state to be hired as an officer.

The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Every US citizen has this right. It is said people think you have to "earn" it.

Well, I think until you have the balls to put your butt on the line everyday, your opinion has about as much value as the crap that comes out of your backside.

That wasnt directed at you offroader thats just where it fell in line, but I do agree with as far as the 2nd.

What line? The Donut line? The wont show up until AFTER the situation is over line? The riot line in LA where the cops told people they wouldnt go and were on their own?....Or how about the courts have ruled they have no duty to protect you line?

The only line LE are on, is the takin' revenue line...Ive been there AND walked in those shoes, no body owes me anything, and I never wanted anything anybody else doesnt have the same RIGHT to...but then again Im not an elitist who thought I was special either

Garbagemen and recycling workers have a higher death/injury rate on the job than police officers do. Should they get extra firearms rights?

Police officer is the 10th or 11th most dangerous job depending on who did the statistics. Fisherman is the highest, I believe. Loggers and taxi drivers are more likely to get killed/injured on the job as well. AND Taxi Drivers' highest death cause is homicide. If anybody should get extra firearms rights it should be taxi drivers.

There are a lot more people in more dangerous professions who have the "balls to put their butts on the line everyday" than police officers.

According to the US Constitution, one's opinion(in the form of the right to vote) is not effected by one's genital's dimensions.

I do not like the fact that just because someone chose a certain occupation, their opinion is valued any more than mine because of the occupation I chose.

no prob :)

I think then we better hand guns out to convenience store clerks, taxi drivers and other proffessions with far higher risk than LE, Le isnt even in the top 5 so we better get right on that, after all they assume more danger and have earned the right..right guys?

LMAO

so you think your opinion is worth more because you choose to be a cop.......

perhaps in school i missed out on the part where they covered the various classes of society and who got what rights.....you couldnt help bring me up to speed could you?

Maybe the laws for civilians should be on par with that for LEOs. Things such as constitutional carry and no gun free zones should be implemented nationwide.

Wow, a lil' elitist aren't we? No one profession should have any more rights than the other.

Garbagemen, taxie drivers, and fishermen are not obligated to stop a robbery, or someone getting beat to death. Do some of you people think before your mouth engages or are you just spitting out remarks to see where they land. I'm not a Police Officer, but am damn glad we have them. I was however a Marine who guarded a Special Weapons base. I had access to all sorts of weapons, but in no way should I be allowed to carry them off duty. My job ended at the end of my shift and at the base gate, a Police Officer's doesn't.

hate to break it to you pal......but neither are police officers.

Should a Chicago or NY City cop have to leave his gun at work at the end of the day? Heck no. I picked those two cities because those are places where the citizen can't carry legally for all practical extents.

In States where shall issue exists and the citizen is subject to no carry restrictions, I think those places the citizen can't carry should be examined and most of those no carry restrictions should apply the the cops.

For example, citizens can not drink and carry, cops should not either.

Hopefully this will post before the thread gets locked.

I'm not here to bash our LEO's, most of them I've met have been pretty decent people,
