I decided to give my old P6 a well-deserved overhaul today. Among other things, it now has a new recoil spring, a stock P225 hammer spring (P6 originally came with a brutal spring for the West German Hulk Police,) and a new set of factory grips.

But I also decided to replace the worn-looking decock lever with a new one. Only $3.95 so why not...but it doesn't look or work like the original. The tab that trips the hammer is shorter and lower, and the top of the lever has a big bump on it. Instead of catching the hammer and letting it down slowly like the old one, it drops the hammer without much control. I put the original back in since I don't really like the fast drop.

Did Sig recently change this part and not tell anyone? It doesn't even look like the photo on Top Gun's site. But it did come in a Sig bag with the same part number.

I notice a large difference between German and USA Sigs. The German Sigs seem to decock with a bit more authority and noticeable click while the USA ones are more squishy.

I had an Astra A-100 that was essentially a Spanish P229 clone, and the decocker on it felt like it was going to fire the gun, it dropped the hammer so violently!

Called Top Gun back, they said they didn't know there was a difference. Called Sig and they said the lever I got should be for new P220s and isn't considered a replacement for the part # I ordered.

Huh.

I've notice a difference between the SP2022 models, that drop the hammer with authority, and the rest of the P-Series models that lower the hammer more slowly.

The hammer can't contact the firing pin while being de-cocked so it doesn't matter how fast it drops.

I'm not concerned with it firing. It's just the original one has a very positive and controllable action, and the replacement just sort of trips and pushes your finger off the lever when you hit it. I'm trying to see if Top Gun can send me the right part number.

Yeah, you definitely want to be sure it's working correctly and the right part. Part fit can make a big difference, my de-cocker felt a lot different after a trigger job by Grayguns, smoother and better.
