I bought a SIG mosquito because I really liked the way it felt in my hand. It's heavy and seemingly well built. Bought 250 rounds of CCI Velocitor ammunition (their 1435 fps 40 grain round) and here are the results.

The magazine is easy to load. Note I didn't say magazines. SIG is getting really cheap. On the first magazine of ammo, the unit misfed the final round about a bullet's width high. No big deal.

The trigger is not bad is single action. Double action is pretty strong. The pistol is not as accurate as my Ruger 22/45 Mark III. Oddly enough, I enjoy shooting it more. It's really comfortable. Over the next 240 rounds, I had the same mis feed on the last round of the cartridge about 3 times. None of these was a deal breaker for me. I could fire the pistol as fast as I could pull the trigger and it was flawless.

I've heard horror stories about this pistol. I don't have any of that to report. Takedown is really easy which is also a plus. Those little CCI's i was using were quite powerful for 22lr, more like shooting Magnums than 22lr. They are fast and hit hard.

I like the pistol very much. Since it's just a plinker, I'll give it a B+. It's very much a keeper. I also like the fact that it appears to be all polymer and not a combo of plastic and pot metal. I could be wrong though.

Accuracy at 10 to 20 yards is good, at 50 yards it's not as deadly accurate as the Mark III which is pinpoint at that distance.

If anyone knows why (other than it's a &##* SIG Mosquito) the last round of the magazine sometimes gets flipped up a bit high, let me know.

It does have a steel slide.

The Mosquito has, what I believe to be, a justly deserved reputation as a jammomatic. I have owned one and it was terrible. In defense of it though I polished the feed ramp with some 600 grit paper and flitz and the jamming was actually tamed a bit. Maybe 1 out of 200.

You are correct. I took it apart at the range and it was so noisy that I really didn't notice. I took it out of the box a few moments ago and sure enough, it had that cold steel feel.

Mine performed really well vs my expectations. Now, I was using about as good ammo as I can get. I'm going to shoot it with the minimags next and then some really cheap crap I have about 500 of. I'll see how that does. I also thought it interesting that the pistol was the least expensive of most if not all the others at Academy and one other shop i went to.

I'll let you know if use makes the pistol better or worse. I'm kind of thinking it can only get worse :)

I notice the pistol comes with 2 guide rod springs. I'm using the longer one which came with the pistol - for 'power' loads, and one for 'weaker' ammo. Anyone have any input as to which one actually performs better using CCI minimags or hyperocity ammo? I have a brick of regular winchester stuff and I wonder if I should be prepared to change springs. I feel that the spring in there now is perhaps causing my last round to be slammed up and over the barrel, but i'm not really good at determining the mechanical cause of an event such as this. The pistol performs super well other than an occasional misfeed of the last cartridge in the magazine.

Use the power spring for mini-mags and other high velocity loads.

The lighter spring is for standard velocity.

A shooting buddy of mine has one and it is a pleasure to shoot. I have read a lot of horror stories about them but his works fine. I have shot with him many times and always put several of mags through it myself when we go. It does suffer the occasional jam but not frequently enough to be a problem.

I really like the CCI Velocitor ammunition. It's really a noticeable step up from the minimags which is good ammo. From my 7 inch barreled MKIII - they are super accurate and very flat shooting. They are a great round. They could almost pass for a self defense round in a pinch.

I agree that the mosquito is a very fine shooting pistol.

I posted this on another thread; my 2 cents on the Mosquito;

I have had a Mosquito for @ 5 months, with well more than 1,000 rounds through it. I bought it because I wanted to find a .22 my wife could shoot comfortably which would simulate a duty pistol without the recoil. As it turns out, and to my surprise, I really like shooting this pistol. Mine was manufactured in March this year. For the first 500 rounds I did as suggested and only ran CCI Mini Mags through it. I did have a few FTF/FTE in the very beginning, but after @ 100 rounds that stopped, and the pistol has been 100% since then. After 500 rounds, I went to Blazer ammo, not thinking it would work well. In fact its working perfectly, as is now Federal Bulk. It does appear these pistols require breaking in with Mini Mags before trying other brands. What else can I say; it feels great in my hands, like a real gun. It is, IMHO, the easiest pistol in the world to breakdown and clean (I wish every pistol maker was forced to study this aspect of its design; this is a dramatic improvement over the Rugers, which I also own). Accuracy is good, when you use good trigger control. The trigger can't match a target pistol, but I like it and it forces me to concentrate on my technique. I shoot it well, but it took a number of sessions to learn how to. I do lube this pistol very well after cleaning it after each range session, including putting Hoppes Gun Grease on the rails and slide; the grease stays put, doesn't accumulate any carbon or junk, and keeps eveything slick. I don't know whether this helps or even explains my pistols very good reliability, but I believ in it.

I purchased a mosquito for the same reasons phrogpilot did.
My wife had been wanting to shoot something other than our High Standard target pistol.
She did not want anything to do with even a 9mm cartridge.
I wanted something for her that would work well for drills from holster etc.
It has been a fun pistol to shoot.
Never found any slow/cheap ammo that was real reliable using the lighter or heavier spring.
CCI mini mags 3?gr are 100% but to expensive for me, Federal gold match 40gr is 99%, Winchester super x 36gr hv is 100% reliable and Federal Champoin - grey/blue box 40gr stuff is 80%.
Mine likes lighter 36/37 gr fast stuff best.
Was getting irritated reloading the one and only mag that came with the pistol.
Found extra sig metal mags on gunbroker for decent price.
I now have 5 mags.
It is amazing how fast you can use ammo thru this gun.
All good fun.
First time I have worried about the increase in 22lr ammo cost. Its getting wacky in NY – saw $50 for Winchester and Federal bricks at gun show last weekend.
I am glad I built up my 22lr stash over the last few years and hope to wait out the price/availability insanity.

Mine jammed quite a bit the first time out but now seems to run fine even on Remington Thunderbolts...

"...the easiest pistol in the world to breakdown and clean (I wish every pistol maker was forced to study this aspect of its design..."

a friend of mine owns a "skeeter", and they do come apart much easier than most...BUT, have you ever stripped a high standard? push one button, and you have bbl, slide and frame seperated.

Check the barrel periodically for tightness. It has a small set screw holding it to the frame and it vibrates loose occasionally. Mine did.

Hope yours is better then the two I had. They feel great but mine just did not work out. Customer service was not very good at the time. I liked the feel enough to try a second time. Good luck

I just took my brand new mosquito to the range this week. Everything I read said to go ruger and a buddy of mine has one that I shot and liked, but the mosquito is shaped more like my carry gun (cz 2075 rami) so I took a chance and bought the Sig.

I shot 200 round of mini mags through it and had no issues at all. I had some really old remington thunderbolts sitting around so I thought I would try them. They also worked flawlessly.

I think I am going to really like this gun. And needless to say, it's a whole lot cheaper than my 40 S&W.

I've had a Mosquito for about a year. Well over a 1000 rounds through it at this point, and it has been generally good. It does not like being dirty, and it is a finicky eater. MiniMags run 100% in mine, but Federal Bulk suffers periodic mis-feeds after about 175-200 rounds.

My local shop has a bunch of these, and I have been wanting to pick one up. I have been hesitant, a friend of mine got one 3 years ago when they came out and it had fte issues, and kind of scared me off. Still, I want one with the threaded bbl, so I can can it. What is a good average price for one of these, my local shops sticker is 419. Should I wait till the gun show? Has anyone had any experience with one and a suppressor?

Well I hate to end the praise party, but I had a sig mosquito and it sucked. Will never buy another one.Would not feed ANY AMMO with any spring . Ive had better luck with Jennings. Try putting a magnet on that steel slide. Melted down Matchbox cars got more stell.

I've owned a Mosquito for about a year now and love it. First 200-300 rounds did have some problems, but after that it was a dream, I shoot only CCI Mini-Mags and I do keep it clean. But its accurate and depenable. I have seen a couple of people now who had major prblems with jams, but a fast check in both cases showed they installed the recoil spring in backwards. They are worth the money and a great training tool for younger shooters.
