Another comparison question for the group.

I'm looking to purchase a 9mm. I'd like something hammer fired, rather that striker, so I'm excluding Glock and the M&P from the comparison.

The Sig 250 looks interesting: polymer frame, hammer fired, light DAO, multiple sizes of frame available. How do you think it compares to the CZ P01?

I've fired both, but not enough to really make a good comparison.

Thanks!

PO1 all the way... Right now there is a great deal from Top Gun Supply.... $469.

The P250 is not selling well and has not been well received. I owned a P250 for about a month. I still own a P01.

I am loving some CZ pistols... so I would say the CZ P-01. I dont have any experience with it personally, but if it is anything like either of my CZ's, it is a hell of a pistol.

SIGs are my favorite pistols

With that said, with what you want, CZ P01 gets my vote, unless you are really good with a long double action only trigger. I wouldn't mind having a P250 in sub-compact .45, but not for a compact/full size double stack 9mm

The CZ P01 would more likely compare to the SIG P229, I own 5 SIGs P232, P239, P229, P226 and a SIG 556, But my daily carry weapon usually is the CZ PCR. DOA is just that in my book Dead On Arrival, SA or DA,SA is the way to go. I do however compete in IDPA and USPSA matches with a Glock G34. I would get the SIG P229 instead of the P250, or the CZ PCR instead of the P01 because of the rail. But between your choices I would get the CZ, I have a bunch of SIGs, none in 9mm, and only one CZ, the PCR, I may get another SIG but I'll probably not get another CZ. The PCR is a tool, quite possibly the perfect tool.

I have a Sig P228 a CZ-75B and CZ PCR. The Sig sits in the safe, the CZ's get shot everytime I go to the range and the PCR is my daily carry in the same holster that the Sig used to live in. That should tell you something.

Although the SIG P228is very similar in size to the PCR (as noted above, they even fit in the same holsters), they differ in some critical dimensions. The SIG is outstandingly accurate and reliable, but even with a short trigger I found the trigger reach and length of pull excessive, whereas the PCR is nearly perfect, although I needed some thin wood grips to achieve this. The SIG slide is also taller and wider which makes it less comfortable to carry IWB.

Between the Sig 250 and the CZ-P01, I'd go with the CZ. I just don't like the trigger on the p250.

That being said, I'm an avid Sig fan, and carry a p229 or p225 daily. I'm leaning strongly towards picking up a CZ-P01 though - I like everything in the CZ-75 family....

What did you not like about the P250?

BTW, I own a PCR.

The P250 has a long trigger pull. IMHO opinion the reset is also long. There was nothing wrong with it per sa but it simply did not feel great in the hand. The Glock 19 is a better DOA 9mm and its cheaper.

I wanted to like it but in the end the frame felt cheap. The modular concept was interesting but they took way too long and the kits cost way too much for it ever to really be an option so I punted.

Both are excellent guns... Biggest difference, one's plastic and the other's all-metal... Size and weight are basically the same (both are excellent CCW guns... I use the P-01)... Ergonomics and hand-fit are TOPS with the P-01. Also, the P250 is DAO!
I own several SIGs but no P250... However, have shot one on several occasions and find my P-01 MORE ACCURATE and an overall better shoot (for me, but I'm a 'metal-guy'). Won't go wrong with either but there are better choices in the SIG line if you want to go all-metal and SA/DA (like the P225 or 228). My vote is for the CZ P-01.

Sigh*
If only the P01 came with the option of a manual safety.
I hear the decock lever gets in the way of your thumbs if you do a high thumbs hold. Haven't held a decock version though.

I'd still get one over a P250 though.

this will probably be the only thread on record where a Sig get shut out on "votes". Of course the 250 is the redheaded step child of Sig.

Personally I love Sigs but I would take the CZ over the P250 anyday. The P-01s are really a great weapon.

If you really have your heart set on a 'plastic' SIG (instead of a CZ), go the SIG Pro-2022 route. Great pistol... very accurate and one of the 'sweetest' triggers I've ever shot... and can still be had for under $500... It's the only 'plastic' gun I own and IS worth owning!... and IMO is 'heads-above' the 250!!

Eeek. Unless you personally have shot a CZ decoker gun and had it decock from a high thumb hold.

I really don't see it as a problem.

One would have to actually press down and rearward to decock the gun.

Others have brought up the subject, but no one has really had this happen when firing.

I do know of Taurus owners who have decocked during firing.

As for the step-child SIG. The P250 is on my list for a non-CZ buy.

Feels better to me than any other SIG out there, and I'm not
a fan of SIG decockers, so the DAO theme is fine with me.

The SIG-PRO/SP 2002 felt almost French:)

I did hold a P229 DAO and liked the trigger, but felt the gun was too wide and blocky in my hand.

What handguns do you currently own and which is the most fun to shoot and you're the most accurate with?

I guess one man's junk is another man's treasure. I love my SIG p250. The trigger is not for everyone but it is what sold me on the gun.

I also love my P250 compact, it has over 13k rounds through it and is still good as new, the DAO trigger is exceptional, very smooth and breaks at the same place everytime. I installed the small grip module on it so my wife could use it and found that it actually fit my hands better as well. This is 1 gun that I will always own, too accurate and reliable to replace and what you get for the price is a deal.....

SIG 250 love/hate

Can't say much for the CZ, as I've seen but not fired it. However, I've owned a P250 compact 9mm for a year and have noticed a few problems with it.

- First P250 I owned cracked the frame of the "firing unit (trigger/hammer assembly) after a dozen rounds; swapped for a new one.
- P250c's made in 2009 have a different grip style than ones made currently (rounded mag finger relief versus squared) - as a result, magazines for the "older" P250c 9mm's don't fit the newer grips and if you swap you need newer style mags (see their website)
- Older P250c mags had lots of problems. Initially, they were marked 16 rounds (I own a pair of those) but they only hold 15 and after a few shooting sessions will no longer lock the slide back. Having trouble getting SIG to replace them right now.

I do like the feel of the P250c - I have L/XL glove size hands, and it's the most natural feeling grip (i can get all fingers on it) of any compact I've owned or tried. Even better than the XD.

I'm a big SIG fan (own 3 - a 226 .40, the P250c, and a 522) but the 250 seems to have been poorly executed.

Between a 250 and a P-01 I would go P-01 without a doubt. Not to take anything away ftom the 250 but the CZ is a GREAT pistol and a GREAT value, plus its a well proven design. Probably the best 9mm for the price imo. But take price tag out of the equation and my da/sa 9mm list goes: H&K P30, Sig 229, CZ P-01.
