I just bought a Sig P226 x5 Allaround - fantastic shooting but the 1st shot is DA. I am an old 1911 guy and think I'll spring for another from Sig's Mastershop in Germany. The x5 & 6 have the ambi safety just like my 1911s so they could be carried in pos. 1 - cocked and locked like I do my 1911. Both pistols are larger and heavier than a 1911 and would probably drag your britches off -but - you have an excellent chance of hitting what you aim at. Maybe better than my custom 1911 Officer's.

6" - longer sight radius and more weight - may be a tad more accurate - would need a trench coat for concealed carry.
5" - I'm used to - have no idea how much 1" sight radius would make

I am open to advice and preferably experience - not sure which way I'm going but will go. Also kind of like their new black & white model but may be a mistake over all stainless??

Oh - use. I punch holes in paper as close together as possible, reload & carry.

Many Thanks for your thoughts.

You may want to ask over at sigforum.com... many X-5 owners there, some with multiple pistols. All are too rich for my blood, unfortunately. I would love one, and like you, I'd prefer the SAO variant.

Hold and aim both in a combat stance. For practical accuracy, balance beats sight radius, in simple terms. The initial target acquisition may also favor a shorter radius. Same for the holster draw. No recommendation whatsoever, just the checklist. I bought my X5 after comparing it to the X6.

Nice guns, buttttt as a carry peice??? cannot find much bigger or heavier with exception a Deagle or X Frame!

Have you looked at an X-5 TAC? It's 4.5# SAO, but has an alloy frame and weighs 35.5 ounces compared to the X-5 L1's 47.2 ounces. And it comes with night sights.

Everyone who has shot mine thinks the weight and balance are great. It's accurate, too.

Not a common choice for carry, but can't argue against it. In SAO possibly the finest alternative to a 1911.

I'd stick with the X-5 myself, and I have actually been making the same comparison. I do not really like bbls over 5" on semiautos. They just seem wrong to me. 6.5" is the longest I'll go on a revolver.

I however want the DA trigger setup. I like to let my 1911 be the 1911 in my collection, and boast the best trigger. Since I day hike a lot, the X-Five Allaround would be a viable carry option for me as well.

I have an X-5 (SAO), and it's big and cumbersome. Just releasing the slide is a challenge. For that price, I'd give serious thought to a used SIG P-210 (which I've had in years past), or maybe one of the newer ones with the mag release on the grip (rather than heel).

M X-5 (.40) is accurate, but it is NOT my favorite handgun, and there's no way it would ever be a carry weapon for me.
