Sadly it was Weatherby that made factory rifles and loaded most of the available factory ammo. Premium price for the rifle and about as darn much for 20 rds or Weatherby brand ammo.. If Winchester, Remington, or Ruger chambered it, it may have picked up more of a following.
Oh well, us that have em know its merits, and if there truly was a candidate for 1 rifle for deer sized and up game in North America, im of the opinion that the 338-06 would be high on the list of candidates.

I didn't take very long to figure out why the Weatherby rifle didn't catch on. If I remember right the rifle only weighed 5 3/4 pounds and with a scope it would weigh about 6 3/4 pounds which would make it a real jumper. One round with a full power load and a big heavy bullet would break you from sucking eggs. The rifle was intended to be sighted in using a lead sled and then to only fire one round at some unsuspecting animal. When I first got interested in the 338-06 I was seeing many of the Weatherby rifles for sale on GunBroker. A rifle like that changes hands often. Not only that, only a hunter who reloads can afford the ammunition and I would suspect that a lot of people who bought the Weatherby weren't reloaders. I would like to read a review of the Weatherby rifle by one of the owners.

Your post got me interested in the Vith N150 powder so I took a look at it on the Berger burn rate table. It is very similar to IMR 4350 and H4350 so I can understand why it would work well. Hope the powder supplies come back soon so I get a chance to get some. Reloader 17 also falls into the same group of powders and it really works good in my first 338-06. Reloader 15 is in a faster burning group along with Varget. GooseGestapo mentioned BLC2 and it is faster than Reloader 15 or Varget.

I used IMR 4350 for the longest time with all weights and it was pretty good. The N 150 was just that much better. I get very consistent number with it. It's biggest setback is its about $10 more a pound on average than Alliant, IMR, etc. I lucked out and got it on sale years ago, so I picked up 4 pounds. I've tried it in 22-250, 7.62x54, .308, and it does quite well, but it sure really shined big time in the 338-06
