GA is the US home for Glock and, while I own and shoot them, they are not for everyone.

The Sheriff of our little county is a friend and client and knows I love pistols. Came over with a catalog from SIG for the purchase of new department pistols. I was amazed they were NOT Glock people since Glock nearly gives them away here in GA for the cops.

The officers did NOT like the looks, feel etc of the Glocks and voted for SIGS. I got to help with the model and caliber selection.

Went with P220 in .40 cal since we have women detectives and some men with small hands. Ordered some shot triggers too.

Naturally, the Sheriff was grateful for the help and offered me ANY new SIG at police price. DEAR GOD! They are cheap for the cops and well they should be.

Now, which .40 load is the better for duty carry? Thanks for the help.

CDNN had Ranger in 155 and 180 gr for $13/50,buy 10 and they pay shipping.I don't know if they have any left now,you might want to call them...

You might also want to take a look at StevesPages.com,he has done a lot of unscientific ballistics tests on various calibers...

Do you mean the P229 (midsize SIG Pistol)???...any of the "big" name bullet manufacturers make fine duty rounds and they all perform similarly despite what their marketing people would have you believe...
Speer Gold Dot
Winchester Ranger
Remington Golden Saber
155gr are more to the hot side 165 in the middle and 180 to the heavy...our guys with the .40S&W use Speer Gold Dots in 165gr now and for the last few years...

We use Speer Gold Dot 155 grain, and it has performed pretty good, in both animal control type situations and shootings. Pretty good expansion and decent penetration. The new Federal HST is supposed to be pretty good too.

Federal is the best ammo for a police department. They will stand behind all their ammo in court and provide free expert testimony if ever needed. Federal is what the State of Alabama has on state bid because of this. Speer is also good, and of course it's owned by Federal. I think the Federal Tactical 180gr or the Federal HST 180gr are the best.

Winchester T , Federal HST or Tactical or Speer Gold Dots any of those in 180 will give you exactly what you need for police work.

My PD uses Federal 180 gr HST.

It's done its job well so far.

As much as I love my SIG's if you picked the 220/ 226 series due to small women and men hand size you have missed the boat,

If he truly wants to help those with samer hands then he should allow then to chose the 225/239 series in 40 cal.

Most of the the departments I know of in my area to inclue my old one where issuing either the 165 or 180 grain slugs, from various makers.

Mine liked the 165 jhpGolden Sabers, Do a search for Doc Roberts and Ammo lab listings and it can help in picking

Man With A Gun

Great choice of duty weapon! There are some excellent choices for defensive ammo. The Remington 165gr Golden Saber, Corbon 165gr JHP and Winchester 165gr SXT are the best. In 155gr you cannot beat the Federal Hydra-shok or The Speer Gold Dot. Most practice ammo is 165gr and the 165gr and 155gr are excellent stoppers! Winchester SXT and the Golden Saber are the two most accurate. The Sig is very well made gun! Take care and have a safe holiday!

The Best to you and yours!

Frank
