Silly things you've heard at gun shops

Not an overheard comment, but I saw a S&W Model 10 hanging on the wall of a gun shop as a bad example. It had come quite thoroughly unglued. Seems the fearless operator put a full case of Bull's Eye in it.

Not at a gun shop, this was yesterday at the range. Guy approached me and asked how to lock the bolt back on the AR-15. Said he knows AR’s because he was in the army but he’s shooting his wife’s and isn’t familiar with it. Said he’s an AK guy. I REALLY wanted to ask ‘what army?’

To the widow bringing in a nice Ruger 10/22 with a name brand scope and nice case, “this is kind of worthless, but I can give you $25 for it considering your circumstances.”

At that point I walked out.
I would have said something!
And offered the lady a fair price!

They can throw me out of the store. That same sales person sits in the front pew at church and claims tobe closer to God.

The old adage “Your walk talks louder than your talk” comes to mind.

I just heard it announced quite loudly (by a customer) that the “new 22 creedmoor is just a fancy 22lr. Can do anything it can with my old single shot marlin….” WOW!

I worked behind a gun counter for a few years. The old standbys were always:

“such and such shoots so fast that the bullet doesn’t have time to open up inside a deer.”

“6.5 Needmoor doesn’t leave blood trails.”

“my rifle will shoot the same sized groups as that expensive rifle.”

“I shot a deer with such and such, but it just don’t kill ‘em.”

“silencers/thermals/night vision are illegal.”

“silencers make your gun less accurate/slow the bullet down.”

Guy insisting that cast bullets are “boolits”. Jacketed bullets are “bullets” according to him I was ignorant for not knowing this. I then asked what you called a swaged bullet as it is neither boolit , or bullet, by his definition. He really got going then much to the amusement of the spectators.
Sounds like castboolits knowitall.

This wasn't at a gun shop but I had a guy look me in the eye and tell me that he could hit Bull's eyes with a .22 caliber handgun at 100 yards.

I didn't dispute him because honestly, I don't know. So I brought it here to check with you guys.

Maybe. Depends on what he means. Is that the 1.5” diameter bullseye on a 50 yard bullseye pistol target or the 4” bullseye on some longer range rifle targets? Does that mean every time, 8 out of 10, or he’s done it twice in 10 years? It’s a tough shot but there are levels to these things.
