Hello everybody,
I'm looking for a squirrel slayer, and i seem to beat the crap out of everything i take in the woods with me. I'm pretty set on buying a single shot .22, simply because of the simplicity and strength of their design. I've been browsing gunbroker, and i cant find anythign thats not a "youth" size. Youth guns are kind of uncomfortable (i have long arms) so does anybody know any bolt or break action .22s?

Thanks,
DS

Seems to me there were some older Remingtons that were bolt action single shots and were fairly full size. Try the Model 510 maybe?

Well, there's always the Savage model 24. It's a break action over-under combo gun. I have one in .22/20GA and I guarantee you can't bust one.

i believe the springfeild m6 scout that shoots single shot 22lr and 410 shotgun over and under is a decent sized 22 and it breaks in half with one pin

I came across quite a few old Remington and Winchester man-size single shot .22s at my LGS lately. Of course, they were in nice shape and their price reflected that.

If you're looking for something "unique," look for a surplus Polish wz-48, modeled to look like a Mosin Nagant. They are single shot, .22LR, and mine is incredibly accurate. Built like a real Mosin so they can take quite a beating. Only downfall is, they're built like a real Mosin and therefore are about as heavy (mine actually feels slightly heavier than my 91/30 without the bayo).

Can you just buy one of those "handi-rifle"s?
I had one in .223,and 20ga,they are tough, and full sized.

I just got a Rem 700 SPS Varmint in .223 and love it. you can get them in any size 22. great accurate guns and lots of mods for them.

Well, I know it's youth sized, but my wife bought me one of the new production Stevens Favorites for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It's accurate, light, and makes me feel like I'm transported back to a simpler time. I think it would make an awesome gun to take backpacking out in the woods. I'm a tall guy with long arms too, and while it's a little small it's not too small. But then again I don't mind a short LOP on my rifles.

Nope. The 700 is a centerfire rifle and not ordinarily available in .22 rimfire. In the past, Remington has made some custom shop 40x single shot .22lr sporters that are based on the 700/40x action and are extremely expensive.

If you can find one, Ithaca Saddle gun. It looks like a lever action repeater but is really a martini action. Very quick to reload.

The Savage Mark1 G is an adult sized rifle. It comes with the accu-trigger also. Use the Savage link posted above and look at the single shot rifles. They also list a mark1 G youth.

I also vote for the Remington 514. I have one I got when I was like 10 (52 now), and it was a hand me down from my oldest brother. Damn good rifle, it slays bottle caps at 25 yards with ease. You should be able to find a good used one for around $100.
