Hello, new member here.

Forgive me if this is not the place, but I am trying to get an idea what the value of my russian SKS rifle is. I have a co-worker who is interested in buying it.

The rifle is an arsenal refurbished model. The top reciever cover has been replaced and there is no markings on it, so I can not determine its place or date of manufacture.

This gun was purchased in 9/95.

The right side of the reciever is marked with:

1) SKS 7.62X39
2) C.D.I. SWAN, VT
3) MADE IN RUSSIA
4) CCCP61687

The left side of the reciever is marked with:

1) TY 7514 K
2) *(an image of a star)
3) 0

Also, marked with the #TY 7514 is the reciever cover, bolt, magazine and the trigger housing.

The stock is the laminated style.

The gun is in good shape. No rust. It includes the bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, owners manual, and the original box. It has had approximately 100 rounds fired through it.

If you can help that would be great. I would just like to try and get a good idea what this gun is worth. Any ideas where else I could go to get help would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've seen the milsurp Yugos go for about $275 unused. You could probably ask between $150-$225 depending on condition.

People who buy unissued Yugo ones for that much are being ripped off by at least a $100 and probrobly even more. You should be able to pick them up for under $150 in alot of places.

Russian ones are the pride of the SKS' usually. You can see them go for $250-450 depending on where you look around and condition.

rcep, you might try the SKSBoards forum ( http://www.sksboards.com ) where a significant amount of this kind of discussion goes on.

I have an excellent condition Russian SKS from '52, original not refurbished, that I paid $250 less than six months ago. Of course, deals like that don't come along every day. I still wouldn't pay more than $400 for a Russian version, unless it was somehow unique.

Excellent condition Yugo 59/66 models are currently selling for no more than $150 (you can pay more, but anybody wanting $275 for even an "unissued" one is smoking crack). I would expect to see real Russian SKS in great condition retailing for no less than $400.

With the shape it sounds to be in, you shouldn't have a problem finding a market for it, but you will want to scope out real SKS collectors. The problem with selling a $400+ SKS is that it is the same price range as some AK models, which tend to me more attractive to most. People looking for a basic SKS for plinking or SHTF are going to opt for the currently cheap and plentiful Yugos. The Russian models are going to be most attractive to a SKS aficionado, many of whom will hang out here:

$275 was rediculous. I saw a rack of 10 of 'em at the Indy 1500 show Saturday as soon as you walked in the entrance. Sad thing was when I left there were a couple gone:what:

Thanks so much for all of your comments.

It looks like my SKS is worth a little more than my friend thinks it is.

Yeah, if your friend is just wanting a basic SKS, he is best off going and finding a Yugo 59/66 at a good price. They are good guns, just not quite as nice as the Russians.

The Russian ones are for the serious SKS fans, and they will be eager to pay for it (heck, I wish I could offer you something for it, but I just can't justify it right now). If you still want to convert it to some green, you can probably sell it in the Classified section here or (even better) at the forum I posted earlier.

Russian SKS bring a premium.....

and 300 bucks in not out of line. What most folks are seeing at gun shows are Yugo SKS. It has been many years since any Russian SKS have been imported, and are only available on the secondary market. Chinese are the next most available. Alot of folks badmouth the Chinese rifles but they are as good as any. In fact, my Chinese SKSs are my best shooters, and one is a complete mismatched restored rifle........chris3

$250-$300 is a fair price for a nice Russian. I've seen quite a few for sale here and there.

However, yours with the low mileage, all the accessories and importers box could probably get a little more.

I'll give you $325 for it. :)
