Folks, having a Yugoslavian SKS, I have recently seen those Tapco plastic 20 round mags. I know that for many folks, the only reliable mag is the original metal 10 rounder, as most of the after market plastic mags have been less than reliable, but gosh, it would be nice to have 20 rounds in the SKS. Does anyone have any experience with these, good or bad? Thanks so much in advance for your advice!

I use them on occasion. I tend to echo the common perspective that the aftermarket mags aren't reliable. The Tapco mags seem to be a pleasant exception in *most* cases. I have a number of various SKSes and I've tried the mags in some of them. They worked great in most, but were problematic in a couple. I only use them regularly in one gun though and they've performed flawlessly in it so far. My best advice on this one is to buy one and try it out for a while before investing in others.

The tapco mag is flawless along with the tapco t6 stock... I have it and it has never failed to feed properly.

If you keep the wood stock a TINY bit of filing/dremel work is necessary.

works perfectly

I was previously frustrated that no high capacity mags would fit norinco/monte carlo stock combo- its like having a new rifle

Thanks so much, folks, for your replies, so please explain to me how they work. Is there an insert that takes place of the current magazine? Do you have to separate the current magazine from the trigger group in order to install this Tapco plastic mag? does Tapco provide instructions on how to make it fit well to wood stocks? If anyone has any ideas on how to fit it to a Yugo SKS, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks so much!

Just take out the 10 rounder. File down each side of the stock a couple millimeters, and you should be in business.

And the answer is YES, TAPCO does include directions for where you have to file and how to do everything.

Head on over to sksboards.com , there are a few threads on the subject if you want to read more!
