I've been reading lately about 'Carbine' Williams' slip chamber mechanism, and learned that it had been successfully employed for a semiauto shotgun (Winchester Model 50) as well as the various .22's. It would appear that, without an actual breech lock, it accomplishes what a locked breech is supposed to accomplish by keeping the case from backing out until the pressures have dropped to safe levels. I had two basic questions:

1. For any current Winchester 50 owner, is there any kind of locking mechanism in this gun other than the floating chamber and bolt moving together for the first 1/10 in.?

2. For anyone else with knowledge of this action, is there a pressure limitation that would make this unviable with 5.56 or 7.62 rounds? If yes, does it stem from the short length of travel and resulting short delay, and could it possible be addressed by lengthening the primary travel distance?

Thanks for any help.
