Man Says He Shot 2 Men Dead Who Were Trying to Rob Him

Grand Prairie (AP) -- Police are questioning a suburban Dallas man who says he shot two men dead who were trying to rob him Tuesday.

Police in Grand Prairie say the man -- who is in his 60s -- reported the two men took him against his will from his home to an ATM. There, the man says he was forced to withdraw cash.

According to police Detective John Brimmer, the man says one of the men had a baseball bat and he believed his life was in danger.

But police say the alleged victim had a small pistol with him. Brimmer says the man reported pulling the gun and shooting both men as they sat in a car.

Police say the man -- who was not injured -- has a concealed-weapons permit.

Brimmer says the two dead men haven't been identified -- but one was wearing a ski mask. Their bodies will be taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office for autopsy.

Another reason to always carry protection, even if there's a shotgun in the closet, and you only have a "small pistol" to carry.

Good for the victim that it happened in Texas.

Interesting, if this had happened in California I wonder if the anti's or a prosecutor would try to charge him with ccw'ing illegally. Assuming he didn't have a ccw license and they kidnapped him. Not very logical to charge the victim, but hey, California is California...

"small pistol" could very well have been something like a springfield micro-compact 1911 in .45.

Or a waltherppk in .32

who knows?

He'll probably get no-billed at the GJ, but IF the article is correct in stating the abductors were inside the car, and IF the victim was outside the car, he MIGHT go to trial, as his life was probably not in IMMEDIATE danger...since they'd have had to exit the car to hit him with the bat, or if they had tried to run him down with the car...let's just pray it gets dropped by the GJ.

I got the impression that he was in the car with the thugs, but I'm not sure. Reading between the lines can get you into some funny places sometimes.

Regardless, it's a good reminder that the shotgun in the closet won't do you any good if you can't get to it. One can discuss the weaknesses of pistols when compared to long guns all day, but you can't hide an AR in your pants... and if you can, I don't want to meet you. You're scary. :uhoh: :D

Exactly why I have my Kel Tec in my pocket at all times while in my house... I don't need or want to fight my way through the bad guys just to get to my gun. Besides, I have a 2 1/2 year old son to protect and I don't want to be caught without an impliment of protection anywhere.
