Young friend of mine has been looking for an AR at a reasonable price for some time now. Last week, he noticed a truck unloading @ his local Wal-Mart (Georgia) and drove up to the guys unloading the truck.

Friend says, "are there any AR-15 rifles in that shipment?" "Yep," was the reply, "there are a few."

Friend says, "well, one of them is supposed to have my name on it." Truck unloader says, "well, we'll just put your name on this one I'm unloading right now," and the guy wrote my friend's name on the box.

Friend drives around to front of Wal-Mart and goes immediately to Sporting Goods. There's a long line of people waiting to see if there are any ARs or ammo being unloaded. Friend goes up to the counter, and tells the clerk that there's supposed to be an AR in the back with his name on it that was being held for him.

You guessed it! Clerk goes into back area and comes out with box with my friend's name on it. Friend got a Windham for $780! Now folks, that's a strategy!

I find that hard to believe, mainly because I didn't think of it first! With skills like that, your friend will never go hungry.

I find it hard to believe because the truck driver has no clue what exactly is in the load most of the time and the truck would be backed up to a loading dock requiring your friend to get into the backroom to talk with the guys who unload the truck.

Hat's off for creativity and thinking out side the box! :)

Success tends to favor those who can find ways to stack the odds in their favor, doesn't it?

Hooray for questionable ethics and lying!!!

???????:confused::confused::confused:

The guy took a shot and won. One of those deals where if you don't ask - then nothing is gained. He asked, he found one, he asked if he could put his name on it, they said "yes" - and he scored. Anyone else could have done the same thing....

If you don't ask - then the answer is always NO...;)

And that would not be hard to do... It's possible the guy was a "vendor" and already in the back room. Or he knew an employee that worked there. Or he was friendly and store security was lax. Plenty of ways that could happen... I used to be a vendor. I know how the "back rooms" work...

I'm going to have to go with you on this one.
When a truck is backed into a loading dock, there is no way to see, nor communicate with anyone inside the trailer.
And no driver is going to look in his load for something you say is there, even if you could talk to him.
And besides that, most drivers don't unload squat at Walmart. That's what the receiving Dept. is for.

I've delivered to walmarts, and unless something has changed.....

How is it lying? Did it not have his name on it?

Well, how about this?
Friend says, "well, one of them is supposed to have my name on it."

Geneseo1911 It's true...according to the story, he never ACTUALLY lied....
Sure he lied......"Friend says, "well, one of them is supposed to have my name on it."
THAT there is a lie unless he actually special ordered a gun through their catalog......and then his name WOULD be on paperwork.

Very clever and unique! My hats off to the quick thinking buyer and the helpful Walmart employees involved.

You can order an AR through their special order book.
Just ask the sales clerk for the book and pick out the
one you want. They wanted 50% down payment and
it will take from 1 to 5 weeks for it to show up. Before
making the order, they call up the supplier and verify
that it is in stock or will be soon. I'm three weeks into
a wait for a Ruger.

Why are you guys talking about truck DRIVERS?

The OP never claimed that the friend exchanged a single word with the person driving the truck.

Weird that you went from 'the guys unloading the truck' to THE TRUCK DRIVER.

Depends on the dock. Something like this open loading dock, will obviously give you the room to talk to the dock crew.

Even docks that are basically a hole in the exterior wall of the building can give you enough space to conduct a conversation.

If the exterior wall doesn't have dock pads, there'll be a decent gap between the back of the trailer and the building. Probably a foot or so, which is plenty of room to exchange a few words with the guys up on the dock.

If there are no pictures, then it didn't happen. :neener:

If I were the store mgr and found out about such goings on I'd have to drop a big

YOU'RE FIRED (using my best Donald voice of course) on the guy at the dock and the sales clerk. What's next, selling merchandise off the loading dock.

Why?
How the hell would the sales clerk have known about it? All he was told was that there was a box with someone's name on it.
