Smith and wesson M&P series

While you guys can keep on with your "Glock v. M&P" pissing match, I do have to say that that's an awesome disassembly picture above--but I don't see the extractor anywhere?

I have nothing but love for my 9c. 14 extra parts and all. It's been flawless.

I would have thought about a G19 or something, except that they aren't fully ambidextrous for us leftys.

I bought an M&P 9mm new at a gunshow because of the $400 price tag and the rebate + 2 mags. It was my first plastic pistol and I figured I would shoot it and then give it to my ex-wife who is wanting a gun for self defense. It was also my second S&W auto(I collect Walthers and generally shoot Berettas...first S&W was a 1911 that outshoots my Beretta 92 as far as consistent accuracy goes). A friend of mine seems to be one of these Glock nuts. So, rather than listen to all the ridicule, I bought a Glock 9mm too and alternated between the 2 at the range, held them both a lot sitting around the house, dry fired them, pointed them, disassembled them and cleaned them...repeat, repeat, repeat. I still have the S&W because it is absolutely the most comfortable feeling and shooting pistol I have ever owned. Because of the grip panels, it just doesn't feel like a "plastic" pistol. I sold the Glock and bought a Beretta Px4 thinking I wouldn't like it...figured it would be the one I gave to my ex-wife instead of the S&W. It shoots as comfortably as the S&W and better than the Glock. It even has the multiple grip panels like the S&W, but they are plastic and nowhere near as comfortable. Again, the S&W wins as all-around favorite, but I can never let a Beretta go. I wouldn't care if the S&W was comprised of 4,283 parts, it shoots great, feels absolutely perfect, looks good(for a plastic gun), and has never failed to feed or fire, therefore, I will keep it permanently. I guess I will go buy another one for $150 more than I paid for the first one, miss out on the rebate and mags(I thought it ended on 04/30???), and give "it" to the ex-wife..........unless it feels really good having one in both hands.

about 3 weeks ago i brought an m&p 9mm, took it to an IDPA match and fell in love with it. it shout great and no problems at all. shot it right out of the box too. so the first time i shot it was in a competition and about 200 rounds total for the day. again, no problems.

well, one week ago i decided that i like the m&p so much that i went out and bought the m&p .45 midsize. and i have to say that this is probably my overall favorite handgun.

so if you are looking at getting one, do it. my previous favorite was my XD40 service....not anymore. i first held the m&p about 1 year ago and liked it but held off from buying one. no i have 2 within a matter of 3 weeks. i have even sold my XD40 just yesterday, WOW, can't believe it.

XD fans don't worry...i plan on replacing it with either a XDsubcompact9 or .40, or get an XD45...im still part of the XD family and it doesn't feel right not having one. that being said, i love being in the m&p family and don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

It is a good pistol. Just not good enough to knock Glock off of its very high pedestal...

In the U.S. civilian market, the Springfield XD has already surpassed Glock in overall sales. Even though Glock has been around for years longer and has quite a few more models.

Glock only dominates in the police market, where the users don't usually have a choice, and established marketing power rules over quality.

Love my full size 9mm. Id rock it over a Glock 17 any day. Why cant people simply appreciate both?

I'm in the market for an OD green Glock 19 as well.

If the M&P is all that, and selling so well, why all the rebates? I don't understand why such a popular pistol would be discounted. TJ

Rebates

The best form of advertising is word of mouth (like this thread) - so S&W is probably just trying to give an extra incentive to anyone who was "thinking about getting an M&P" and make them an owner. It worked for me - I'd been thinking about it, but the rebate and mag deal closed the deal. The more people who own them and sing their praises - the more M&Ps will get sold.

It's the same reason a new restaurant will offer free dinners for its first couple of nights, or a company will hand out its new sports drink on college campus's.

It's just smart marketing.

Worked for a buddy of mine, too. He was thinking of getting some flavor of HK, but couldn't get the trigger pack he wanted, so he was milling around the store, tried the M&P, then saw the rebate deal--he's never looked back.

Now he's contenplating an M&P9c to carry, as well as his fullsize. I've shot the fullsize, and like it much better than any of the Glocks I've shot.

I am and have always been a huge Glock admirer. I've owned 4 in my day, and each has worked as reliably and predictably as possible.

About a year and a half ago, I purchased (for $539) my first Smith and Wesson M&P. It was the full size 9. I'll quantify my statements by saying that even though the gun is selling now (at the same store) for $399, I feel as though it was worth every nickel of that $539.

I bought it just to try out, given how well it felt in my hand.

Like many others, I have been enamored with the series ever since. I now have a 9, 9c, 40, and 45 DBE. All of these pistols have performed flawlessly for me. I still own some Glocks, but because I shoot the M&P much better, it draws every day duty.

The M&P series is a winner, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm actually kind of amazed at the number of members that posted in this thread that own at least 3 out of the series. I thought maybe I was the only one experiencing the sickness.

LOL!!! Not really, we're still best friends, still swap the Cocker Spaniel back and forth, still visit family...10 years later. We probably "should" have been brother and sister.

tydephan,

I just noticed where you are...I came from Tuscumbia/Muscle Shoals. What store up there has them for $399? My local store in GA still has them at $539 and I would like another. Especially if they are going to offer another rebate.

I honestly think S&W is NOT as progun as people think.

While it is a splendid deal which no one can refuse, it really is a GUN-REGISTRATION program.

This means, that S&W can prove to the ATF that it tracks all of the guns that it sold, to legitimate purchases, and the gun owners proved to S&W via addresses, that they have possession of this gun. At first level purchase, anyway. Secondary sales are all in the air, but S&W can SAY they knew where the initial sale went. Thus, if the gun is used in a crime, the Dbase, which S&W will fully co-operate with all LE agencies, will get the serial number, and original customer match, and then the original customer will be contacted by the LE agency.

The mousetrap, cleverly conceived and executed, is the cash rebate and the free magazines. It costs them a minor amount to make the magazines, and also the machines are programmed to make these things day and night.

S&W is playing the game to meet needs of LE, politicians, its own business survival needs, and customer demands.

Perfect marketing.

I traded a Sig 226 for a full sized M&P 9mm. I am very happy with the trade.

As compared to the 226, the M&P is more accurate, fits my hand much better, and is more enjoyable to shoot.

I also have owned and carried many different Glocks. Even though I still like my Glocks, the M&P points better and is more accurate than any of my Glocks.
