He says it has to be faxed only. I have heard that a signed copy can now be emailed also.

I've heard a mountain of B.S. in gunshops, but this seems to be legit from what I've checked out so far. Apparently the change was made 2-3 months ago.

And I'm not referring to the change made a couple of years ago that allowed faxed FFL's. I know about that one. I had a C&R back then I even got the letter from the ATF on it.

Say you don't have a fax number, how else would you sell a gun to a guy out of state unless he emailed an FFL copy to you?

Okay, well then I assume he's just lying about it (it is a payday loan pawnshop after all) because they don't want to hand out FFL's anymore.

Only reason I go to them is because the good gunshop here closed a year ago and the other gunshop won't do transfers or if they do they act like they're doing you the biggest favor in the world or want $35 + 15% of the value of the gun as a transfer fee. And Scheel's also charges an arm and a leg.

They can do it however they want to I guess, I just wish they didn't feel they had to lie to do it. I don't really appreciate them giving me false information.

Let us all remember the Rule of Gun Dealers:

"People do not become get into the gun business to make any money; people get into the gun business to tell other people 'NO!!!"".

:D

Ya, sometimes I wonder about that myself. :uhoh:

It had been about 6 months since I last bought anything so I kind of had a deer in the headlights look when he told me that. I argued with him a little bit about it, but I was buying the line by the time I left.

ya, i got a dealer here who told me he would have to charge state sales tax + a transfer fee, because the government required it, some quick changes to the emailed invoice i recieved, and voila, i swear sir i only paid $5 for this sig 220 :) regardless i wont be doing business with him again

Nonsense.

Being a gun dealer doesn't mean you know anything about the business, it just means you successfully filled out the application, sent a check and were approved.

There is no "gun dealer" test.

Correct. You may get around this by giving him a pre-addressed stamped envelope and ask him to put a signed copy in it and mail it for you. Worked for me.

just a few months ago i ordered a saiga from classic arms, had my FFL fax their info several times because they kept saying they couldn't read the number (though they already had my FFL on file ) and INSISTED i send it by mail. uh,whatever......

Last I knew, it was optional for receiving FFLs to accept faxed copies. They "may" accept them, but they don't have to.

When did e-mail copies get okayed by the BATFE? The last quasi-official letter I saw from them (which was one branch office's interpretation, not an agency-wide ruling) was that the then-new policy specifically said that "fax" copies were acceptable, if legible. Since the policy didn't mention scanned or e-mailed copies, those were NOT acceptable.

Big Steaming Pile!

I'm a Dealer and You can now, Mail, Fax, or E-Mail your FFL to another dealer.
For once the .gov got something right and actually caught up with current technology.
